Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Back Cover Replacement

Step 1 | Heat the right edge

Do not start repair with a fully charged lithium-ion battery, as it may catch fire if damaged.

  • Allow your phone's battery to drain below 25% before beginning this repair.
  • Apply heat to the right edge of the back cover using an iOpener for two minutes.

When using alternative heat sources (hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate), exercise caution to avoid overheating the phone and potential damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Adhesive information

Be aware that the adhesive is strongest at the bottom right and top left corner areas.

  • Observe the perimeter of the frame for visible adhesive securing the back cover.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

  • Attach a suction handle near the right edge of the back cover.
  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a separation between the cover and frame.
  • If difficulty persists, reapply heat as needed while avoiding overheating, following iOpener guidelines.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Slice the right adhesive

  • Slide a tool (e.g. plastic spudger) along the right edge, moving it back and forth to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick inserted near the bottom of the right edge to prevent the adhesive from reforming.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge

Apply heat to the bottom edge of the back cover using an iOpener for 2 minutes.

Step 6 | Separate the corner adhesive

Glass is fragile near corners; work slowly to avoid cracking.

  • Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner.
  • Angle the pick upward and rotate it around the corner, matching the curved edge.

Step 7 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Insert opening pick into the bottom left corner, slicing through the adhesive.

  • Hold the pick in place at the bottom left corner to prevent further resealing of the adhesive.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Heat an iOpener and apply it to the left edge of the back cover for two minutes.

Step 9 | Separate the corner adhesive

Careful handling required when approaching corners — risk of glass breakage.

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.
  • Rotate it around the corner, angling upward to match the curved edge.

Work slowly and patiently to avoid cracking the glass near the corners.

Step 10 | Slice the left adhesive

Slide the opening pick along the left edge until it reaches the power button.

Insert the pick no more than 5 mm to avoid damaging the antenna flex cable or the power button cable.

Leave the pick in place to prevent adhesive resealing.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Apply heat from an iOpener to the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the corner adhesive

Work carefully when approaching the corners, as they are a fragile area.

  • Insert an opening pick at the top right edge.
  • Align it with the curved edge and rotate around the top right corner.
  • Slice slowly to avoid damaging the glass in this delicate area.

Step 13 | Slice the top adhesive

  • Move the pick to the top left corner and use it to cut through the adhesive.
  • Insert the pick no deeper than 4 mm, as excessive insertion may harm cameras or sensors.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 14 | Separate the corner adhesive

Insert the pick no deeper than 4 mm to avoid damaging the cameras.

  • Place an opening pick in the gap at the top left edge.
  • Align the pick with the curved edge and rotate it around the top left corner.

Step 15 | Slice the remaining adhesive

Insert the pick no more than 4mm deep to avoid damaging the cameras.

  • Slide the pick towards the lower camera, slicing through the remaining adhesive.
  • Stop sliding the pick before reaching the power button.

Step 16 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • If the cover is stuck, use an opening pick to carefully pry it loose around the perimeter.

Power on your phone and test all functions before reassembly to ensure a successful repair.

Make sure your phone is completely powered down before continuing with the repair.

  • Remove any remaining adhesive chunks using tweezers or your fingers. Apply heat if necessary for separation.
