Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus Back Cover Replacement

Reapplying adhesive correctly is crucial to retain water resistance, as your device's IP rating will be compromised without proper sealing.

  • Follow this guide to replace the back cover on your Samsung Galaxy S22+.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Do not start this repair with a charged lithium-ion battery — risk of fire.

Allow your phone's battery to drain below 25% before proceeding.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the bottom edge of the back cover for three minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.
  • A hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may also be used as a substitute, but avoid overheating to prevent damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Attach a suction handle to the bottom edge of the back cover.

  • If the back cover is cracked, use tape or superglue to secure it before proceeding.
  • Hold the suction handle firmly and lift the back cover to create a small gap between the two.
  • If the back cover does not separate easily, apply more heat with an iOpener.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 3 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Remove the suction handle.

  • Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to slice the adhesive.
  • If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has likely cooled down. Reheat with iOpener for 2-3 minutes.

Leave the opening pick inserted near the bottom left corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Heat the left edge

Step 4 image

Overheating can cause the iOpener to burst.

  • Apply the heated iOpener to the left edge of the phone for 3 minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • If necessary, reheat the iOpener for 30 seconds.
  • The iOpener should remain warm for up to 10 minutes when properly heated.

Step 5 | Slice the left adhesive

Insert a second opening pick into the gap at the bottom left corner, but no more than 5 mm deep.

Risk of damaging cables near the camera module if opening pick is inserted too far.

  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place near the top left corner after removing it from the bottom left corner.

Step 6

Overheating the iOpener may cause it to burst.

  • Apply the iOpener to the right edge of the phone and heat for 3 minutes.
  • If needed, reheat the iOpener for an additional 30 seconds.
  • The iOpener should remain warm for up to 10 minutes when heated properly.

Continue moving the opening pick along the right edge of the back cover, slicing the adhesive.

Do not insert more than 5 mm to avoid damaging internal components.

  • Leave the opening pick inserted near the top right corner.
  • This will prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 9

Overheating risk: do not let the iOpener exceed 10 minutes of heating.

  • Apply iOpener to top edge for 3 minutes.
  • If needed, reheat iOpener for 30 seconds.
  • The iOpener will stay warm up to 10 minutes with proper heating.
