Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra USB-C Charging Port and Daughterboard Replacement

Retaining water resistance may be compromised if not done correctly, resulting in loss of IP (Ingress Protection) rating.

  • Replace the USB-C charging port and daughterboard.
  • Reapply adhesive carefully to maintain some water resistance functionality.

Step 1 | Remove the SIM card tray

Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole on the top edge of the phone.

  • Press the SIM eject tool into the SIM card tray hole to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

If you accidentally inserted the SIM eject tool into a microphone hole, it's likely undamaged.

Step 2 | Heat the back cover

Step 2 image

Unplug your phone and power it off before starting.

Use a iOpener for at least 3 minutes on the back cover to loosen the adhesive.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Be cautious not to overheat the phone, as the display and internal battery are sensitive to heat damage.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Step 3 image

Attach a suction handle to the back cover's lower edge, near the edge.

Apply clear packing tape over cracked areas if necessary for suction cup adhesion.

  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between it and the frame.
  • If no gap forms, apply more heat to soften the adhesive; refer to iOpener instructions for overheating precautions.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Slide the opening pick towards the bottom left corner to break the adhesive bond.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent re-adhesion of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Insert another opening pick along the bottom edge.

  • Push it towards the bottom right corner, slicing through the adhesive.
  • Don't remove them; let the opening picks stay in place to keep the adhesive open.

Step 5

Adhesive may cool down, preventing easy cutting.

  • Use iOpener for 2-3 minutes to reheat the adhesive.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge, slicing the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place (top right corner) to prevent resealing.

Step 6

When slicing near the camera assembly, use only a small tip (~ 4-5 mm) of the opening pick to avoid damage.

  • Insert another opening pick under the top right corner of your phone.

  • Slide this opening pick along the top edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave one opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Insert a 5th opening pick under the top left corner.

  • Slide the pick along the left edge to slice remaining adhesive.
  • When near the power button, only insert 3-4 mm of the pick tip to avoid damaging the flex cable.

Step 8 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

Power on your phone and test all functions before sealing it up — ensure complete shutdown prior to continuing work.

  • Use tweezers or fingers to remove any adhesive chunks, applying heat if necessary for separation.
  • If using custom-cut adhesives, follow the dedicated guide.
  • If using double-sided tape, follow the respective guide.
