Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Screen and Battery Assembly Replacement

Note that replacing the screen and battery assembly will remove your device's IP rating.

  • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra repair requires this guide. Make sure to purchase the correct part, which includes the screen, battery, and frame.
  • If your battery is swollen, take necessary precautions before proceeding.
  • Completely discharge the battery before disassembling to prevent a thermal event in case of accidental damage.

Step 1 | Remove the SIM card tray

Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole on the top edge of the phone.

Press the SIM eject tool into the SIM card tray hole to eject the SIM card tray.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.

If accidentally inserted into a microphone hole, no damage is likely to occur; however, verify before proceeding.

Step 2 | Heat the back cover

Unplug your phone and power it off.

Heat can damage your phone's display and battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the back cover for at least three minutes to loosen the adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the phone.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the back cover, as close to the edge as possible.

  • If the back cover is badly cracked, apply a layer of clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame.

Be careful not to overheat the adhesive — follow iOpener instructions.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap you created.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom left corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Insert another opening pick at the bottom edge.

  • Guide it to the bottom right corner, slicing the adhesive as you go.
  • Leave both picks in place to keep the adhesive from resealing.

Allow the iOpener to heat the adhesive for 2-3 minutes if it becomes hard to cut.

  • Insert an additional opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge to slice the adhesive, then leave it in place.

When slicing near the camera assembly, use only the tip (~ 4-5 mm) of an opening pick to avoid damage.

  • Insert another opening pick under the top right corner of your phone.
  • Slide this pick along the top edge to release the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place near the camera assembly to prevent resealing.

Insert a fifth opening pick under the top left corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge of the back cover to cut remaining adhesive.
  • When slicing near the power button, only insert ~3-4 mm of the tip to avoid damaging the flex cable.

Step 8 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • Power on your phone and test all functions during reassembly to ensure proper operation.
  • Be sure to power down completely before proceeding, as any remaining power may cause damage.

  • Remove any adhesive chunks using a pair of tweezers or your fingers. Apply heat if necessary for separation.

For custom-cut adhesives and double-sided tape, refer to the specific guides provided.

Step 9 | Slice the adhesive

Insert an opening pick under the left bottom end of the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly.

  • Slide the opening pick along the bottom left edge of the assembly, separating it from the battery.

Step 10 | Disconnect the charging coil

Disconnect the charging coil connector using a spudger. Pry the connector straight up from its socket.

Step 11 | Disconnect the NFC antenna

Disconnect the NFC antenna connector by prying it straight up with a spudger.

Step 12 | Unfasten the NFC antenna & charging coil assembly

Remove the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • There are five screws, each 3.9 mm long.

Step 13 | Unfasten the loudspeaker

Remove the loudspeaker assembly using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Identify and remove the four screws with a length of 3.9 mm.

Step 14 | Disconnect the loudspeaker

Insert the tip of a spudger into the gap at the upper-left corner of the loudspeaker.

Careful prying may be required to avoid damaging adjacent components.

Pry gently with the spudger until the loudspeaker releases from its plastic clips.

Step 15 | Remove the NFC antenna & charging coil assembly

Remove the NFC antenna, charging coil, and loudspeaker assembly using a pair of tweezers or your fingers.

Handle the components carefully to avoid damage.

  • Set the assembly aside for reassembly later.

Step 16 | Disconnect the battery

Remove the battery's press connector using a spudger.

Step 17 | Disconnect the interconnect cables

  • Disconnect the primary interconnect cable's press connector using a spudger.
  • Next, use the same spudger to disconnect the secondary interconnect cable's press connector.

Step 18 | Remove the secondary interconnect cable

  • Use a spudger to pry the bottom connector of the secondary interconnect cable straight up from its socket on the daughterboard.
  • Remove the secondary interconnect cable using your fingers or a pair of tweezers, being careful not to damage it.
  • Set the cable aside for reassembly.

Step 19 | Remove the primary interconnect cable

Disconnect the primary interconnect cable from the daughterboard by prying its bottom connector straight up with a spudger.

  • Carefully remove the primary interconnect cable using your fingers or a pair of tweezers.
  • Set the cable aside for reassembly.

Step 20 | Unfasten the charging board

Remove the charging board by unscrewing its three 3.4 mm screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

Insert the spudger under the left edge of the charging board, near the main flex cable connector.

  • Pry up the charging board using your spudger.

Step 22 | Remove the charging board

Remove the charging board using a pair of blunt tweezers or your fingers.

  • Lift the top edge of the charging board up gently.
  • Carefully slide the USB-C connector out of its recess.

Step 23 | Disconnect the left 5G mmWave antenna

Disconnect the left 5G mmWave antenna's press connector using a spudger.

Step 24 | Disconnect the right 5G mmWave antenna

Use a spudger to gently pry up and release the right 5G mmWave antenna's press connector.

Step 25 | Unfasten the 5G mmWave antennas

Remove the Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the four screws, each measuring 3.4 mm long.

  • The screws secure the 5G mmWave antennas.

Step 26 | Remove the right 5G mmWave antenna

Locate the right 5G mmWave antenna bracket's bottom screw tab.

  • Pry up on the tab using the point of a spudger.
  • Use tweezers or your fingers to carefully remove the right 5G mmWave antenna.
  • Set aside for reassembly.

Step 27 | Remove the left 5G mmWave antenna

Locate the left 5G mmWave antenna bracket.

  • Pry up the bottom screw tab using a spudger.
  • Remove the left 5G mmWave antenna with tweezers or your fingers.
  • Set the antenna aside for reassembly.

Step 28 | Unfasten the earpiece and laser AF module assembly

  • Remove the four 3.9 mm screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 29 | Disconnect the laser AF module and earpiece speaker

Disconnect the laser AF module and earpiece speaker flex cables using a spudger.

  • Pry the connectors straight up from their socket.

Step 30 | Remove the earpiece speaker and laser AF module assembly

Grasp the earpiece speaker and laser AF module with blunt nose tweezers at its bottom right corner.

  • Lift it upwards carefully.
  • Remove the assembly from the device.
  • Set aside for reuse during reassembly.

Step 31 | Disconnect the in-display fingerprint and antenna flex cables

Avoid folding or sharp bends that may damage the cables.

  • Use a spudger to lift the in-display fingerprint and antenna flex connectors straight up from their socket.
  • Bend both connectors carefully to one side, freeing the motherboard.

Step 32 | Disconnect the front facing camera

Disconnect the front-facing camera cable using a spudger.

  • Pry the connector straight up from its socket.

Step 33 | Disconnect the power button

  • Bend the connector to one side to release tension and separate it from the motherboard.

Insert a spudger under the top edge of the motherboard, next to the vibration motor.

  • Twist the spudger gently to pry up and loosen the motherboard.

Step 38 | Remove the motherboard

Handle the motherboard with care to avoid damage.

  • Remove the motherboard slowly and smoothly, avoiding any sudden movements.
  • Ensure that no flex cables are tangled around the motherboard.

Step 39 | Heat the front camera

Apply a iOpener to the front camera and heat it for 90 seconds.

Step 40 | Remove the front camera

Insert a spudger into the gap between the frame and the front camera.

  • Pry up with the spudger to separate the front camera from the frame.
  • If you're having trouble, apply more heat.

Use tweezers or your fingers to carefully remove the front camera.

Set the camera aside for reassembly.

Step 41 | Only the screen and battery assembly remains

Compare the new screen and battery assembly to the original.

  • Transfer any remaining components as needed.
  • Remove adhesive backings from the new part if applicable.

Step 42 | Front camera reassembly instructions

Peel off the front camera adhesive from its liner and attach the sticky end to the frame.

  • Use tweezers or your fingers to pull on the tab and expose the top layer of adhesive.
  • Insert the front camera and apply pressure to secure it to the frame.
