Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Loudspeaker Replacement

This guide is specific to the SM-G998B/DS (international) model Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Note that other models may have an additional antenna cable in the midframe edge.

Replacing adhesive seals is essential for maintaining water protection.

Replacement adhesive will be required when reassembling the device.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Unplug and power off your phone.

  • iOpener: Apply for at least three minutes to loosen adhesive underneath.
  • Alternatives: Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution - avoid overheating the phone. The display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the back cover's lower edge, as close to the edge as possible.

  • If the back cover is severely cracked, apply clear packing tape or strong tape for better adhesion.
  • As a last resort, superglue the suction cup to the broken cover.

Be cautious of overheating when using heat; follow iOpener instructions carefully.

Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between it and the frame.

  • If the gap is hard to create, reapply heat to soften the adhesive further.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • Slide the opening pick towards the bottom left corner to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge.

  • Slide it to the bottom right, slicing the adhesive.

  • Leave the pick in top right corner to prevent resealing.

For slicing near the camera assembly, use only the tip of the opening pick (~ 4-5 mm) to avoid damage or smearing.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick underneath the top right corner of your phone.
  • Slide this pick along the top edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place, particularly in the top left corner, to prevent resealing.

Remove any adhesive chunks using a pair of tweezers or your fingers.

  • Wipe away any remaining adhesive residue with high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol.

If you're using custom-cut adhesives, follow the designated guide for application and placement.
