Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Laser AF module Replacement

This guide applies only to Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra SM-G998B/DS (international) model. Other models may have an additional antenna cable.

  • When reassembling, apply replacement adhesive to reattach components.
  • Failing to replace adhesive seals will result in loss of water protection, despite normal device function.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Unplug your phone from power source.

Do not proceed until powered off completely.

  • iOpener: Apply for at least three minutes to loosen adhesive underneath back cover.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious of overheating. The display and internal battery are prone to thermal damage.

Attach a suction handle to the back cover's bottom edge, close to the edge.

  • If the back cover is severely cracked, apply clear packing tape for better suction.
  • Use strong tape instead of a suction cup or superglue it in place as a last resort.

Hold the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the cover and frame.

Apply more heat if necessary, but be cautious not to overheat using an iOpener.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • Moving the pick towards the bottom left corner will cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place at the top right corner.
