Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Earpiece Speaker Replacement

This guide is for replacing the earpiece speaker on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra SM-G998B/DS model. Other models may have an additional antenna cable in the midframe edge.

Failing to replace adhesive seals during reassembly will compromise water protection, despite maintaining device functionality.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Unplug and power off your phone before starting.

Heat-sensitive components (display, internal battery) can be damaged by excessive heat.

  • Apply an iOpener to the back cover for at least three minutes to loosen adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but avoid overheating the phone.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the back cover, as close to the edge as possible.

If the back cover is badly cracked, apply clear packing tape over it for better suction or use strong tape instead. As a last resort, superglue the suction cup to the broken cover.

  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame.
  • If needed, apply more heat to soften the adhesive further, following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Slide the opening pick towards the bottom left corner to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Step 3 image

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge.

  • Slide it to the bottom right, slicing the adhesive.
  • Leave the picks in place to hold the adhesive open.

Step 4

Reapply heat for 2-3 minutes using the iOpener.

  • Insert a new opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
  • Slide this pick along the right edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place at top right to prevent resealing.

Step 5

When slicing near the camera assembly, use only 4-5 mm of the opening pick tip.

  • Insert the pick's tip under the top right corner.
  • Slide the pick along the top edge to separate the adhesive.
  • Leave a pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 6

Be cautious when slicing near the power button — risk of damaging the power and volume button flex cable.

  • Insert a fifth opening pick underneath the top left corner.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to slice the remaining adhesive.
  • Near the power button, only insert ~3-4 mm of the opening pick tip to avoid damage.

Step 7 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • Power on your phone and test all functions during reassembly.
  • Make sure to power down your phone completely before continuing work.

Any remaining adhesive chunks must be removed with a pair of tweezers or fingers.

  • Wipe away any adhesive residue using high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol.
  • If custom-cut adhesives are being used, follow the provided guide for application instructions.
  • For double-sided tape, refer to its specific reassembly guidelines.

Step 8 | Slice the adhesive
