Samsung Galaxy S21+ USB-C Charging Port and Daughterboard Replacement

Your Samsung Galaxy S21+ will lose its IP rating and may no longer be water-resistant after this repair, as reapplying the adhesive is critical.

  • Use this guide to replace the USB-C charging port and daughterboard.

Step 1 | Remove the SIM card tray

Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole on the top edge of the phone.

  • Press the SIM eject tool into the SIM card tray hole to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

If you accidentally inserted the SIM eject tool into a microphone hole, it's unlikely that damage was done — proceed with caution and inspect the microphone after reassembly.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 2 image

Power off your device before starting the repair.

When using a heat source (iOpener, hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate), apply it carefully to avoid overheating and damaging the display or internal battery.

  • Apply heat to the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Step 3 image

Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the back cover as close to the edge as possible.

  • If the back cover is cracked, try lifting it with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place and allow it to cure.
  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame.
  • If you have trouble creating a gap, apply more heat to soften the adhesive, following the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Separate the adhesive

Step 4 image

Move the opening pick to the lower left corner and slide it across the adhesive.

Do not remove the opening pick — this will cause the adhesive to seal back up.

Step 5

Insert the second opening pick at the bottom edge of your phone.

  • Slide the pick towards the bottom right corner to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave both picks in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 6 | Heat the right edge

Step 6 image

Apply iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

  • Heat the iOpener before use.

Step 7

When slicing near the camera assembly, only insert ~4-5 mm of the opening pick's tip.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick underneath the top right corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 10 | Heat the left edge

Remove the back cover.

  • Power on your phone and test all functions before reassembly.
  • Ensure your phone is powered down completely before continuing.

  • Use a pair of tweezers or your fingers to remove any adhesive chunks.
  • Clean any remaining adhesive residue with high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol.
  • If using custom-cut adhesives, refer to the appropriate guide.

For double-sided tape, follow the specified reassembly instructions.

Puncturing or bending the battery can cause chemical leaks or thermal events.

  • Insert an opening pick under the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly's left bottom end.
  • Slide the opening pick along the bottom left edge to separate the assembly from the battery.
