Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus Loudspeaker Replacement

This guide is for replacing the loudspeaker on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus (SM-G996B/DS). Note that other models may have an additional antenna cable in the midframe edge.

  • Replacing adhesive seals when reassembling is optional, but skipping this step will compromise water protection, even if device function is unaffected.
  • Replacement adhesive will be needed for reattaching components during reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Avoid overheating your device — heat-sensitive components can suffer damage.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least three minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but keep an eye on temperature to avoid damaging the display or internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the back cover's bottom edge, as close to the edge as possible.

  • If the back cover is cracked, try lifting it with strong tape or superglueing the suction handle in place and letting it cure before proceeding.
  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the cover and frame.

If you have trouble creating a gap, apply more heat to soften the adhesive further, but follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom left corner to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge.

  • Slide it to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave both picks in place to prevent resealing.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

If adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has likely cooled down.

  • Reheat with iOpener for 2-3 minutes.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner of phone.
  • Slide opening pick along the right edge to slice adhesive.
  • Leave opening pick in top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 5

When slicing near the camera assembly, only insert the tip of the opening pick (~4-5 mm) to avoid damage.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick under the top right corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 6

Insert a 5th opening pick under the bottom left corner.

  • Slide it along the left edge, slicing the remaining adhesive.
  • When near the power button, insert only ~3-4 mm of the tip to avoid damaging the flex cable.

Step 7 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • Power on your phone and test all functions before reassembly.
  • Power down your phone completely after testing.

Do not proceed without powering down your phone — risk of damage from accidental turn-on during reassembly.

  • Remove any adhesive chunks with a pair of tweezers or your fingers.
  • Wipe away adhesive residue with high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol.

Avoid using low-concentration cleaning solutions as they may leave behind residue.

  • If using Samsung custom-cut adhesives, refer to the Samsung Adhesive Guide.
  • If using double-sided tape, refer to the Double-Sided Tape Installation Guide.

Step 8 | Slice the adhesive

Risk of chemical leak or thermal event: avoid puncturing or bending the battery with your tool.

  • When sliding the pick, be cautious of the cable beneath the charging coil and stop if it catches.
  • Insert an opening pick underneath the left bottom end of the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly.
  • Slide the opening pick along the bottom left edge to carefully separate the assembly from the battery.
