Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus Front-Facing Camera Replacement

This guide is for replacing the front facing camera on Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus (SM-G996B/DS international model). Note that other models may have an additional antenna cable in the midframe edge.

  • Remeber to replace adhesive seals when reassembling to maintain water protection, otherwise device's IP rating will be compromised. Water damage is likely if you skip this step.

Don't forget replacement adhesive for reattaching components during reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least three minutes.

  • The iOpener should loosen the adhesive underneath.
  • Be careful not to overheat the phone - heat damage can affect the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the back cover, near the edge, for optimal grip.

Cracked back covers may require strong tape or superglue assistance to secure the suction handle.

  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle, creating a small gap between it and the frame.
  • If a gap is difficult to achieve, apply more heat while following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap and slide it towards the bottom left corner to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Reheat the iOpener for 2-3 minutes if the adhesive becomes hard to cut.

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 5

When near the camera assembly, insert only the tip (~4-5 mm) of the opening pick.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick under the top right corner.
  • Slide the pick along the top edge to slice adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing of adhesive.

A punctured or bent battery can leak chemicals or cause a thermal event.

  • Be cautious of the cable beneath the charging coil.
  • Work slowly and stop sliding the pick if it catches on the cable.
  • Insert an opening pick under the left bottom end of the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly.
  • Slide the pick along the bottom left edge to separate the assembly from the battery.
