Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus Charging Board Replacement

This repair guide is for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus SM-G996B/DS model. Note that other models may have an additional antenna cable attached to the midframe.

Replacing the adhesive seals is crucial; failure to do so will compromise your device's water resistance, despite proper functionality.

  • Have replacement adhesive available for reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least three minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.

Careful not to overheat the phone, as the display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

  • Alternatives: Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but monitor temperature closely.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the back cover, as close to the edge as possible.

  • If the back cover is cracked, try lifting it with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place and allow it to cure.
  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame.
  • If you have trouble creating a gap, apply more heat, but follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom left corner to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick under the top right corner of your phone.
  • Slide this opening pick along the top edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place at the top left corner to prevent resealing.

  • During reassembly:
    • Power on your phone and test all functions before sealing.
    • Ensure your phone is powered down completely before continuing.
  • Remove adhesive chunks with a pair of tweezers or your fingers.
  • Use high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol to wipe away any adhesive residue. Risk of skin irritation.

  • Insert an opening pick underneath the left bottom end of the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly.
  • Slide the pick along the bottom left edge to carefully separate the assembly from the battery.
