Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus Battery Replacement

Discharge battery below 25% before disassembly to avoid thermal event risk.

  • Battery removal requires additional antenna cable removal (varies by model).
  • Take precautions when handling swollen batteries.
  • Removing interconnect cables simplifies battery replacement and reassembly.

Replace adhesive seals during reassembly to maintain water protection; have replacement adhesive on hand.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Do not apply excessive heat, which can cause damage to the display and internal battery.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least three minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Attach a suction handle to the back cover's bottom edge, as close as possible.

If the back cover is cracked, use strong tape or superglue to secure the suction handle and allow it to cure.

  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Apply more heat if needed, following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap, then slide it towards the bottom left corner to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Step 3 image

Insert another opening pick along the bottom edge.

  • Slide this new tool towards the bottom right corner to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave both opening picks in place to prevent the adhesive from sealing itself again.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Re-heat the iOpener as needed, using it for 2-3 minutes to warm up the adhesive.

  • Insert a new opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
  • Slide this pick along the right edge of your phone, slicing through the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place, top-right corner, to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.

Step 5

Insert only the tip (~4-5 mm) of the opening pick near the camera assembly to avoid damage or smearing.

  • Place a fourth opening pick underneath the top right corner.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge to cut adhesive.

Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 6

Insert the opening pick at the bottom left corner.

  • Slide it along the left edge of the back cover, cutting through remaining adhesive.
  • When near the power button, only insert the tip (~3-4 mm) to avoid damaging the power and volume button flex cable.

Step 7 | Remove the back cover

Step 7 image

Remove the back cover.

Power on your phone and test all functions during reassembly before sealing it up, then power down completely.

  • Remove any adhesive chunks with a pair of tweezers or your fingers.
  • Clean away any adhesive residue with high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol.

If using Samsung custom-cut adhesives, follow the designated guide. If using double-sided tape, follow its specific reapplication instructions.

Step 8 | Slice the adhesive

Do not puncture or bend the battery with your tool, as this can cause chemical leaks or thermal events.

  • Be cautious of the cable beneath the charging coil.
  • Work slowly and stop sliding the pick if it catches on the cable.
  • Insert an opening pick underneath the left bottom end of the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly.
  • Slide the pick along the bottom left edge to carefully separate the assembly from the battery.

Step 9

Strong adhesion requires additional methods.

  • Apply iOpener to screen for 2+ minutes to loosen battery adhesive.
  • On gaps between frame and left/right edge of battery, apply 1-2 drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol.
  • Use caution not to over-saturate; avoid midframe cutouts to prevent damage.

  • Allow isopropyl alcohol to penetrate adhesive for 2-3 minutes before proceeding.

  • During reassembly:
    • Secure the new battery with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape.
    • To position correctly, apply adhesive at old adhesive locations, not directly on the battery.
    • Press the new battery firmly into place.

Temporarily reconnect battery to motherboard for alignment, then disconnect once seated.
