Samsung Galaxy S21 Vibrator Replacement

Discharge battery below 25% before disassembling for safety. Reduce risk of thermal event and damage.

  • Check if your battery is swollen and take precautions if necessary.
  • Purchase replacement adhesive to complete the repair successfully.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 1 image

Power down your phone completely.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatives include a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate; however, be cautious not to overheat your device as the display, internal battery, and plastic back cover are prone to thermal damage.

Step 2 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the back of the phone, near the center of the bottom edge.

Use strong, steady force when pulling up on the suction cup to create a gap between the back cover and frame.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap created.
  • Be cautious not to insert the pick more than 5mm to avoid damaging internal components.

If encountering difficulty, try applying additional heat to the edge and retrying the process.

Step 3 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Thumbnail 2

Locate the excess adhesive to the right of the camera.

  • Carefully cut through the adhesive using a suitable tool.

Be aware that there is a plate on the back cover surrounding the phone's flash, which may cause the pick to get stuck.

When approaching this area, angle your pick downward to avoid damaging any components.

Step 17

Step 17 image

Thumbnail 3

Be cautious when handling the phone's delicate components.

  • Align the opening pick with the flash, ensuring a straight entry point.
  • Slice slowly into the adhesive to the right of the camera, angling the pick downward to prevent it from sliding into the plate.

Step 18 | Remove the back cover

Step 18 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Remove the back cover.

  • If the back cover is still attached to the frame, use a pick to slide around the edges of the phone until it separates completely.

Power on your phone and test all functions during reassembly before sealing it up. Ensure your phone is powered down completely before continuing.

  • Use tweezers or fingers to remove any remaining adhesive chunks.
  • Clean away adhesive residue with high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol.

If using Samsung custom-cut adhesives, follow this guide. If using double-sided tape, refer to the relevant guide for specific instructions.

Step 19 | Unfasten the motherboard bracket

Step 19 image

Remove the motherboard bracket screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Screw count: 5; length: 4 mm.
  • Carefully keep track of each screw for reassembly purposes.

Make sure to install each screw in its original location.

Step 20 | Unclip the motherboard bracket

Step 20 image

  • Use your fingers to remove the motherboard assembly.

Step 37 | Apply isopropyl alcohol

Step 37 image

Remove any debris from the vibrator's mounting area.

  • Apply a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol around the vibrator's perimeter, near the frame.
  • Add more isopropyl alcohol only if necessary; excessive use may damage copper pads.
  • Allow the isopropyl alcohol to penetrate the adhesive for 1-2 minutes.

Step 38 | Remove the vibrator

Step 38 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert the point of a spudger into the gap between the vibrator and frame.

  • Pry up with the spudger to disconnect the vibrator.
  • If the vibrator is stuck, apply more isopropyl alcohol; it may take time for the adhesive to loosen.

Use tweezers or your fingers to remove the vibrator carefully.

If there's any remaining alcohol, use a lint-free cloth or let it dry before installing a new vibrator.
