Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 3 image

Unplug your phone and power it off.

  • iOpener: Heat and apply to bottom edge of back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternative methods: Hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate can be used, but avoid overheating the phone as display and internal battery are susceptible to damage.

Thumbnail 3

Apply suction cup near center of bottom edge to avoid damage.

  • Use clear packing tape for cracked displays if necessary.
  • Pull on suction cup firmly and steadily to create gap between back cover and frame.

Tight tolerances may require multiple attempts with iOpener and suction cup.

  • Reheat edge and try again if initial attempt fails.
  • Do not apply excessive force to pick, or risk cracking back cover glass.

Insert opening pick into gap created by suction cup.

Step 5

Apply a suction cup to the phone's back, as close to the left edge as possible.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, ensuring only the tip is under the glass's edge due to its curve.

This may require multiple attempts due to tight tolerances. If struggling, apply more heat or try adding a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol into the seam.

Avoid excessive force with the pick, as it may crack the back cover glass.

Step 8

Step 8 image
