Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Wireless Charging Coil Replacement

Replacement requires wireless charging coil and additional adhesive.

  • This guide covers removal and replacement procedures for the Galaxy S20 Ultra wireless charging coil.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 1 image

Disconnect the power source from your device.

  • Apply heat to the lower edge of the back cover using an iOpener for two minutes.
  • Alternatively: Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat, as this may damage the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Apply a suction cup near the center of the bottom edge.

If the back cover is cracked, consider applying clear packing tape first for better adhesion.

  • For stubborn cases, use strong tape or superglue to attach the suction cup.
  • Pull on the suction cup with steady force to create a gap.

Be cautious not to apply excessive pressure while using an opening pick, as this may crack the glass.

  • Insert the pick into the created gap.
  • Reapply heat and try again if necessary, due to tight tolerances.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Avoid cutting adhesive near curved edges, risking cracked glass.

  • Slide pick back and forth along phone's bottom edge to slice through adhesive.
  • Leave pick in seam to prevent adhesive reseal.

Step 4 | Heat the left edge

Step 4 image

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 5 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Apply a suction cup to the left edge, near center.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, aiming for the curved glass edge.

Due to tight tolerances, multiple attempts may be necessary. Applying excessive force can crack the back cover glass.

For added assistance, apply heat and/or a few drops of high concentration isopropyl alcohol into the seam.

Step 6

Insert the pick under the glass's edge.

Tilt the pick downward slowly to avoid breaking the glass and insert it further to fully release the adhesive.

Step 7

Insert a pick along the bottom edge of the phone and gently pry the back cover away from the device.

  • Continue sliding the pick towards the bottom edge until the adhesive is fully separated.
  • Leave the pick positioned under the left edge near the bottom to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.

Step 8

Insert a second pick under the center of the left back cover's edge.

  • Gradually slide the pick towards the top, separating the adhesive.
  • Be cautious when sliding across the volume and power button frame as it may crack the glass.
  • Leave the pick under the left edge near the top to prevent resealing.

Step 9 | Heat the right edge

Step 9 image

Excessive heat can damage your phone's display and internal battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternative heating methods include a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the device.

Step 10 | Separate the right edge adhesive

  • Apply a suction cup to the right edge of the phone's back, near its center.
  • Pull the suction cup firmly with steady force to create space between the back and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, tilting it downwards as needed for full insertion.

Step 11

Slide a pick toward the bottom edge of the phone to separate the back cover's adhesive.

Make sure to leave your pick under the right edge of the glass near the bottom for proper separation, as the adhesive may reseal otherwise.

Step 12

Insert a pick under the center of the right back cover edge.

  • Slide the pick towards the top of the device to separate the adhesive.
  • If the bottom edge releases three picks, set them aside; this edge won't reseal further.

Step 13 | Heat the top edge

Step 13 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 14 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Be gentle when handling the back cover as it is prone to cracking.

  • Start by sliding a pick from the right edge of the device around the top right corner.
  • Continue to slice along the top edge, separating the adhesive completely.

If you encounter resistance, stop and reapply heat before continuing.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Step 15 image

Slowly lift the back cover using a gentle prying motion.

Use opening picks to carefully slice any remaining adhesive residue.

Remove the back cover.

  • During reassembly, power on your phone and test all functions before sealing it up.
  • Using a pair of tweezers or your fingers, carefully remove any adhesive chunks.
  • If necessary, apply heat to aid in separating the adhesive.
  • If using Samsung custom-cut adhesives, refer to the provided guide for reassembly instructions.
  • If using double-sided tape, follow the provided guide for removal and reapplication procedures.

Step 16 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil
