This guide shows how to remove and replace the Rear-Facing Camera Module, including all four cameras, for the Galaxy S20 Ultra. If you want to replace a single camera within the module, use this guide as well.
Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or a straightened paperclip into the hole on the SIM tray located at the top edge of the phone next to the plastic antenna band.
If you insert the tool into the other hole, do not worry — the microphone and ingress gasket are out of harm's way.
Remove the SIM card tray.
Unplug your phone and power it off.
Excessive force may crack the back cover glass.
Do not apply excessive force when using an opening pick.
Tight tolerances may require multiple attempts of reheating and separating before success.
Be cautious when cutting the adhesive near the curved edges, as it can crack the glass.
Heat the iOpener according to its instructions, then apply it to the left edge of the back cover for exactly two minutes.
Avoid cracking the back cover glass by not using excessive force with the pick.
Due to tight tolerances, you may need multiple attempts or more heat to achieve this.
Hold the pick steady while tilting it downwards to dislodge the adhesive.
Position a pick at the bottom edge and slide it towards the bottom to separate the back cover's adhesive.
Insert a pick under the center of the left back cover edge.
Leave your pick under the left edge of the glass near the top of the device to prevent re-adhesion.
Apply a iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
Insert a pick into the gap and slide it towards the bottom edge of the phone, separating the back cover's adhesive.
Insert a pick under the right edge of the back cover.
Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.
Be careful not to damage the curved glass near the corners when handling the back cover.
Slowly lift the back cover to prevent damage.
Do not seal the device until you have tested all functions by powering on your phone and verifying its operation.
Careful not to dislodge small surface-mounted components when removing connector.
Reconnect the wireless charging coil connector first during reassembly, then firmly press the coil into place to ensure proper adhesion.
Remove the motherboard bracket using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
Remove the motherboard bracket using a pair of tweezers.
Remove the five 3.9 mm-long screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
Insert the point of a spudger or a pair of tweezers into the notch in the top left corner of the midframe.
Careful alignment is crucial when re-attaching press connectors to avoid pin bending and permanent damage.
Use a spudger to gently pry up and disconnect the main flex cable and auxiliary flex cable from the motherboard.
Remove the main and auxiliary flex cables by gently peeling them up.
Disconnect the left 5G antenna cable from the motherboard using a prying tool.
Disconnect the main display flex cable from the motherboard.
Bend the display and left 5G antenna flex cables outward to clear the motherboard and battery.
Be gentle to avoid damaging the cables or their connections.
Remove the upper midframe using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
Disconnect the right 5G antenna flex cable from the motherboard.
Remove the side button flex cable by prying it up from the motherboard.
Careful not to damage the flex cable.
Disconnect the upper 5G antenna cable from the motherboard by prying it loose.
Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully pry up one corner of the 5G millimeter wave antenna module.
The module may be held in place with a small amount of adhesive.
Remove the motherboard and camera assembly using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
Insert the point of a spudger into the bottom left corner of the motherboard assembly.
Remove the rear facing camera module.
