Replacing the motherboard requires the motherboard from a donor device with working components or purchasing a pre-made replacement part.
Remove the SIM card tray.
If the thin rubber gasket around the SIM tray is damaged or missing, replace it or the entire SIM tray to protect internal components from water and dust damage.
Unplug and power off your phone before starting.
Apply strong, steady pressure with caution — risk of damaging back cover glass.
Insert an opening pick into the gap, reheating as needed due to tight tolerances. This may take multiple attempts.
Slide a pick back and forth along the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive.
Avoid cutting near the curved corners, as this may crack the glass panel.
Heat an iOpener and apply it to the left edge of the back cover for two minutes.
Apply a suction cup to the phone's left edge, near its center.
Due to tight tolerances, this may require multiple attempts. Apply more heat if needed.
Insert the pick further under the glass's edge, then gently tilt it downward.
Careful when sliding across the ridge in the frame surrounding the volume and power buttons - the cutout in the glass may crack easily.
Heat the phone's right edge with a iOpener for two minutes.
Apply suction cup near right edge center.
Position the pick at the bottom edge of the phone and gently slide it toward the center to release the back cover's adhesive.
Insert a pick under the right edge center of the back cover.
Use a iOpener to heat the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.
Be gentle when handling the curved glass near the corners.
If slicing becomes difficult, stop and reapply heat before continuing to avoid damaging your device.
Remove the back cover by lifting it slowly.
Apply heat if removing adhesive is difficult and requires extra care.
During reassembly, power on your phone and test all functions before sealing the device.
Remove any loose adhesive chunks with tweezers or your fingers to avoid reattachment issues.
Be cautious when disconnecting the wireless charging coil connector using a spudger, as nearby surface-mounted components may be dislodged.
Peel the wireless charging coil away from the device using a pair of tweezers.
Risk of damage — do not touch the metal contacts during removal.
Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the five magnets. Keep track of them for reinstallation.
Unclip the motherboard bracket using a pair of tweezers.
Disconnect the battery connector with a spudger.
Remove the screws securing the loudspeaker and lower midframe using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
Insert the tip of a spudger or a tweezer into the notch at the top left corner of the midframe and pry up to release its clips.
Disconnect the main flex cable and auxiliary flex cable from the daughterboard near the bottom of the device using a spudger.
Pressing down on misaligned connectors can cause permanent damage to the pins.
Use a spudger to gently pry up and disconnect the main and auxiliary flex cables from the motherboard.
Peel up and carefully remove both main and auxiliary flex cables.
Disconnect the Main Display Flex Cable by prying it up from the motherboard.
Peel up the display and left 5G antenna flex cables to clear the area around the motherboard and battery.
Remove the upper midframe using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
Insert the point of a spudger into the notch on the right side of the upper midframe.
Pry up gently to release the clips holding it in place.
Locate and carefully pry up the side button flex cable from its connector on the motherboard.
Disconnect the front facing camera flex cable from the motherboard.
Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully pry up one corner of the 5G millimeter wave antenna module.
During reassembly, reconnect the 5G antenna connector first to ensure proper alignment, then press the rest of the antenna module firmly into place.
Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the two 3.9 mm long screws securing the motherboard and camera assembly.
Insert spudger tip into bottom left motherboard corner and gently pry upwards.
Disconnect the ultrawide camera connector from the motherboard.
Be careful not to damage the camera connector pins.
Turn the motherboard assembly upside down.
The motherboard is all that's left.
