Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Loudspeaker Replacement

Replace the lower midframe on your Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra by removing the loudspeaker, which is integrated with it.

  • You will also need a new adhesive for reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 1 image

Unplug and power off your phone.

  • Apply heat using an iOpener for two minutes to the back cover's bottom edge.
  • Alternative heat sources: Hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate. Note: Avoid overheating to prevent damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 2 image

Apply a suction cup near the center of the bottom edge, or use clear packing tape to aid adhesion if the back cover is cracked.

  • For stubborn cases, superglue the suction cup to the broken cover as a last resort.
  • Pull on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.

Be cautious not to apply excessive force with the pick, which may crack the back cover glass.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap once created.
  • Reheat and retry if necessary due to tight tolerances; this process may take multiple attempts.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Step 3 image

Risk of damaging the glass panel if adhesive is cut near its curved edges.

  • Slide a pick back and forth along the bottom edge, slicing through the adhesive.
  • Avoid cutting near phone corners where glass curves, to prevent cracking the glass panel.
  • Leave pick in seam to keep adhesive from resealing.

Step 4 | Heat the left edge

Step 4 image

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 5 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the left edge of the phone's back, as close to center as possible.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, aiming for the edge of the glass. The tip must be underneath the glass's edge to proceed.

Due to tight tolerances, this may take multiple attempts or the use of additional tools and techniques.

  • Apply more heat if needed to loosen the adhesive, then try again.
  • Alternatively, apply a few drops of high-concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol into the seam for added assistance.

Avoid applying excessive force with the pick, as this may crack the back cover glass.

Step 6

Insert the pick further under the glass's edge.

Tilt the pick downward carefully to avoid scratching the screen.

Continue inserting the pick until the back cover's adhesive is fully separated.

Step 7

Insert a pick at the bottom edge of the phone and gently pry the back cover away from the device.

Keep the pick in place under the left edge of the glass near the bottom to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 8

Insert a second pick under the center of the left back cover's edge.

  • Slide the pick towards the top while applying gentle pressure to separate the adhesive.
  • Be cautious when crossing the ridge near volume and power buttons, as this area is prone to glass cracking due to the cutout.

  • Leave the pick under the left edge of the glass near the top to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 9 | Heat the right edge

Step 9 image

Excessive heat can cause permanent damage to the display and internal battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternative heating sources: hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may also be used.

Step 10 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Step 10 image

  • Apply a suction cup to the phone's back, near the right edge center.
  • Pull the suction cup firmly to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
    • Insert an opening pick into the gap and angle it downward for full insertion underneath the back cover.

Step 11

  • Slide the pick towards the bottom edge of the phone to break the back cover's adhesive.
  • Leave the pick under the right edge of the glass, near the bottom of the device, to prevent resealing.

Insert a pick under the center of the right edge of the back cover.

  • Slide the pick towards the top of the device to separate the adhesive.
  • If the bottom edge releases the three picks, set them aside as they won't reseal later.

Step 13 | Heat the top edge

Step 13 image

Apply iOpener to the top edge of the back cover and heat for 2 minutes.

Step 14 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Step 14 image

Be careful not to damage the curved glass near the corners during this step.

  • Start by sliding a pick from the right edge of the device around the top right corner.
  • Continue slicing along the top edge, separating the back cover adhesive completely.
  • If it becomes difficult, stop and reapply heat before proceeding to avoid damage.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Step 15 image

Disconnect power source before starting.

  • Lift back cover slowly and use opening picks to slice any remaining adhesive.
  • Remove back cover completely.

Phone not powering on or malfunctioning after repair may indicate a more serious issue.

  • Power on phone and test all functions before reassembling.
  • Use tweezers or fingers to remove adhesive chunks.
  • If needed, apply heat to separate adhesive.

Different adhesive types may require specific removal procedures.

  • Samsung custom-cut adhesives: Follow additional guide for removal instructions.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to carefully pry the wireless charging coil away from the device.
  • Remove the wireless charging coil from its mounting point.
  • Reconnect the wireless charging coil connector first, then firmly press the rest of the coil into place to ensure proper alignment and adhesion.

Step 18 | Unfasten the motherboard bracket
