Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or straightened paperclip into the hole on the SIM tray.

  • Position it at the top edge of the phone next to the plastic antenna band.
  • Press in firmly to eject the tray.

If inserted into the other hole, it will not cause damage.

Step 2 | Remove the SIM Tray

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 2
  • Remove the SIM card tray.
  • The SIM card will fall out easily.
  • When reinserting, ensure proper orientation with the tray.
  • A damaged or missing rubber gasket around the SIM tray can lead to water and dust damage. Replace it or the entire tray to protect your phone's internal components.

Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 3 image

Unplug and power off your phone.

Use extreme caution with heat sources as the display and internal battery can suffer heat damage.

  • Apply an iOpener to the back cover's bottom edge for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but avoid overheating the phone.

Step 4 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply excessive force with caution, as cracking the back cover glass is possible.

  • Place a suction cup on the phone's back near the center of the bottom edge.
  • If the back cover is cracked, consider covering it with clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • Use strong tape instead of the suction cup if necessary, or apply superglue to secure it.

Apply strong, steady force to create a gap between the back cover and frame using the suction cup.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • If necessary, repeat reheating with the iOpener and separating with the suction cup multiple times.

Avoid applying excessive force with the pick to prevent cracking the back cover glass.

Step 5 | Slice the adhesive

Step 5 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Avoid cutting adhesive near the phone's curved corners, as this risks cracking the glass panel.

  • Slide a pick back and forth along the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place after creating an opening to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 6 | Heat the left edge

Step 6 image

Heat a iOpener and apply it to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 7 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Step 7 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the left edge of the phone's back.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, ensuring only the very tip is under the glass edge due to its curved shape.

Multiple attempts may be needed due to tight tolerances.

  • If trouble persists, apply more heat or a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol into the seam to loosen adhesive.
  • Do not apply excessive force with the pick, as this can crack the back cover glass.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 2

Position the pick under the glass's edge and gently tilt it downwards.

Continue inserting the pick until the adhesive is fully separated.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a pick at the bottom edge of the phone and slide it towards the center.

Keep the pick in place under the left glass edge, near the bottom of the device, to avoid resealing the adhesive.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a second pick under the center of the left back cover's edge.

  • Slide the pick towards the top, gradually separating the back cover's adhesive.
  • Be cautious near the volume and power button frame – risk of glass cracking due to the cutout in the display glass.

  • Leave the pick under the left edge near the top to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 11 | Heat the right edge

Step 11 image

Do not apply excessive heat as it can cause damage to the display and internal battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but ensure the phone does not overheat.

Step 12 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Step 12 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply suction cup near right edge, as close to center as possible.

  • Pull suction cup with strong, steady force to create gap between back cover and frame.
  • Insert point of opening pick into the gap.
  • Tilt opening pick downward to fully insert underneath back cover.

Step 13

Step 13 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Insert a pick under the right edge of the glass, near the bottom of the device.

Make sure the pick remains in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Slide the pick towards the bottom edge of the phone to separate the back cover's adhesive.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a pick under the center of the right edge of the back cover.

  • Slowly move the pick towards the top of the device to loosen the adhesive.
  • If the bottom picks are released, set them aside and note that they won't reseal later.

Step 15 | Heat the top edge

Step 15 image

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 16 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Step 16 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

The curved glass near the corners is prone to cracking.

  • Slide a pick from the right edge around the top right corner, being cautious of the fragile glass.
  • Continue slicing along the top edge to separate the back cover adhesive.
  • If the process becomes difficult, stop and reapply heat before proceeding.

Step 17 | Remove the back cover

Step 17 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Beware: incorrect reassembly can cause permanent damage to your phone.

  • Lift the back cover slowly, then use opening picks to slice any remaining adhesive.
  • Remove the back cover.

Before sealing: power on and test all functions.

  • Remove adhesive chunks with a pair of tweezers or your fingers, using heat if necessary.
  • If custom Samsung adhesives are used, follow the Samsung guide.
  • If double-sided tape is used, follow the double-sided tape guide.

Step 18 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 18 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Be cautious when disconnecting the wireless charging coil connector — risk of damaging nearby components.

  • Use a spudger to carefully pry up and release the wireless charging coil connector.
  • Watch for small surface-mounted components near the socket and avoid dislodging them.

Step 19 | Remove the wireless charging coil

Step 19 image
