Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus Wireless Charging Coil Replacement

You'll need replacement adhesive for successful completion of this repair.

  • Learn how to remove or replace the wireless charging coil in a Galaxy S20 Plus.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 1 image

Unplug and power off your phone before starting.

  • Apply heat using an iOpener for two minutes, targeting the back cover's bottom edge.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious of overheating: display and internal battery are susceptible to damage.

Step 2 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 2 image

Excessive force may crack the back cover glass.

  • Apply suction cup to phone's back near center of bottom edge.
  • For badly cracked displays, apply clear packing tape to aid adhesion.

Super glue can be used as a last resort if other methods fail.

  • Pull suction cup with strong force to create gap between back cover and frame.
  • Insert opening pick into gap, being careful not to apply excessive pressure.

Multiple attempts may be needed due to tight tolerances.

  • Reheat edge with iOpener and reapply suction cup as needed.
  • Apply additional heat if gap still cannot be created.

Step 3

Never apply excessive pressure on the curved corner areas, which may cause the glass panel to crack.

  • Slide the pick back and forth along the phone's bottom edge to slice through the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 4 | Heat the left edge

Step 4 image

Apply heat from an iOpener to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 5 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup near the center of the left edge.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert the opening pick into the gap, ensuring only the tip is underneath the glass's edge.

Due to tight tolerances, this may take multiple attempts.

  • If needed, apply more heat to the edge and try again.
  • Alternatively, add a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol into the seam for extra assistance.

Do not apply excessive force with the pick or risk cracking the back cover glass.

Step 6

Insert the pick further under the glass's edge.

  • Tilt the pick downward for full separation of the back cover's adhesive.

Step 7

Be cautious when navigating the volume button area, as the glass is more prone to cracking.

  • Slide a pick along the left phone edge to separate the back cover's adhesive.
  • Leave the pick under the left glass edge to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 8 | Heat the right edge

Step 8 image

Avoid overheating the device.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but keep the device away from extreme heat.

Step 9 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Apply a suction cup to the phone's back, near its center right edge.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, tilting it downward as you would at the previous edge.

Step 10

Slide the pick along the phone's right edge to separate the adhesive.

Do not lift the pick under the glass yet — wait until later.

  • The back cover may release other picks as you proceed, letting them fall free. Set aside any released picks.

Leave the bottom edge of the adhesive separate for now to prevent resealing.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Step 11 image

Place a iOpener on the top edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image

Be gentle when handling the curved glass near the corners of the back cover as it may crack easily.

  • Start by sliding a pick from the right edge around the top right corner.
  • Continue slicing along the top edge, moving leftwards to separate the back cover adhesive completely.
  • If the process becomes difficult, stop and reapply heat before resuming.

Step 13 | Remove the back cover

Step 13 image

Slowly lift the back cover and use opening picks to remove remaining adhesive.

  • Remove the back cover.

Power on your phone and test all functions before sealing, then power it back down completely before proceeding.

  • Use tweezers or fingers to remove any adhesive chunks.
  • Apply heat if needed for stubborn adhesive removal.

For custom-cut adhesives, follow specific application instructions.

For double-sided tape, refer to its own reassembly guide.

Step 14 | Unfasten the motherboard bracket

Step 14 image

Remove the motherboard bracket using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

  • Screw: six 4 mm-long screws
  • Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original position.

Step 15 | Unclip the motherboard bracket

Step 15 image

Do not completely remove the motherboard bracket.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to gently pull up and unclip the motherboard bracket from the plastic midframe.
  • Leave the bracket attached to the wireless charging coil for now.
