Samsung Galaxy S20+ USB-C Charging Port and Daughterboard Replacement

Note that replacing the USB-C charging port and daughterboard may compromise your Samsung Galaxy S20+'s water resistance. Reapplying adhesive is crucial to minimize this risk.

  • The repair guide will walk you through replacing these components.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 1 image

Unplug and power off your phone.

Use extreme caution when applying heat as the display and internal battery can be damaged by excessive heat.

  • Apply an iOpener to the back cover's bottom edge for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but avoid overheating the phone.

Step 2 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the phone's center bottom edge, as close to it as possible.

If your display is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better suction or use strong tape instead of the suction cup.

  • Apply strong, steady force on the suction cup to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap through its point.

This may take multiple attempts due to tight tolerances; reheat with the iOpener and separate with the suction cup before succeeding.

  • If creating a gap is difficult, apply more heat to the edge and try again.
  • Do not apply excessive force with the pick, or you risk cracking the back cover glass.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Risk of cracked glass if attempting to slice adhesive too close to curved corners.

  • Slide a pick back and forth along the bottom edge to cut through the adhesive.
  • Avoid cutting near the phone's curved edges where the glass panel is more prone to cracking.
  • Leave the pick in the seam to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 4 | Heat the left edge

Step 4 image

Apply iOpener to left edge of back cover for 2 minutes, allowing it to heat.

Step 5 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply excessive force with the pick at your own risk — risk of damaging the back cover glass.

  • Attach a suction cup to the phone's back, as close to the left edge as possible.
  • Pull on the suction cup firmly until you create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, ensuring its tip is beneath the glass's edge.

Due to tight tolerances, multiple attempts may be necessary.

  • If needed, apply more heat to loosen the adhesive.
  • Alternatively, add a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol into the seam for added assistance.

Step 6

Step 6 image

Insert pick further into gap.

  • Tilt pick downwards.
  • Separate adhesive completely with minimal pressure.

Step 7

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 3

Slide a pick along the left edge of the phone to separate the back cover's adhesive.

  • Be cautious when approaching the ridge in the frame surrounding the volume and power buttons, as it may cause cracking of the glass.
  • Leave the pick under the left edge of the glass after removal to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 8 | Heat the right edge

Step 8 image

Apply iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution: overheating can damage display and internal battery.

Step 9 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup near the right edge's center.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, tilting it downward for full insertion.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Thumbnail 3

Slide a pick along the right edge of the phone to separate the back cover's adhesive.

Leave the pick under the right edge of the glass near the top of the device to prevent resealing.

  • The back cover may release other picks, allowing them to fall free. If this occurs, set aside the pick(s).

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Step 11 image

Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image

Be gentle when handling the curved glass near the corners of the back cover, as it may crack easily.

  • Start by sliding the pick from the right edge of the device along the top right corner.
  • Continue slicing around the top edge to the left edge, separating the adhesive fully.
  • If the process becomes difficult, stop and reapply heat before resuming.

Step 13 | Remove the back cover

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 2

Slowly lift the back cover to avoid damage.

  • Use opening picks to remove any remaining adhesive.
  • Remove the back cover once it's lifted.

Power on your phone and test all functions before reassembling, then power down completely.

  • Remove any excess adhesive chunks with tweezers or fingers. If needed, apply heat to aid separation.
  • If using custom-cut adhesives, follow the provided guide for application.
  • For double-sided tape, consult the dedicated guide for correct installation.

Step 14 | Unfasten the motherboard bracket

Step 14 image

Remove the six 4 mm screws with a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

  • Keep track of each screw for reassembly purposes.
  • Ensure each screw returns to its original location.

Step 15 | Unclip the motherboard bracket

Step 15 image

Use tweezers to carefully unclip the motherboard bracket from the midframe.

Do not fully remove the bracket yet, as it remains attached to the wireless charging coil.

Step 16

Gently tilt up the motherboard bracket to access the orange battery connector.

Step 17 | Disconnect the battery

Step 17 image

  • Pry up the midframe using a spudger inserted into the top left notch.

  • Be careful not to damage any components underneath.

    • Remove the loudspeaker.

    • Take out the lower midframe.

Step 21 | Remove the wireless charging coil

Step 21 image

Use a pair of blunt-nose tweezers to gently peel away the wireless charging coil.

  • Remove the wireless charging coil from the device.
  • During reassembly:
    • Reconnect the wireless charging coil connector and battery connectors.
    • Refasten the motherboard bracket screws to align everything.
    • Firmly press the coil pad down for proper adhesion.

Step 22 | Disconnect the daughterboard

Step 22 image

Careful alignment is crucial when re-attaching press connectors to avoid pin bending and damage.

  • Pry up the primary and secondary flex cables from the daughterboard using a spudger.
  • To reconnect, align the connector carefully and press down on one side until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat this process for the other side. Do not press in the middle to avoid pin damage.

Step 23 | Disconnect the main flex cables

Step 23 image
