This guide replaces the entire rear camera assembly on a Galaxy S20 Plus, consisting of two parts: cameras and frame. Removing the motherboard is required; additional adhesive will also be necessary for reassembly.
Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or a straightened paperclip into the hole on the SIM tray.
Make sure you insert it into the correct hole, located at the top edge of the phone next to the plastic antenna band. Inserting it into the other hole will not cause damage.
Press in firmly to eject the tray.
Remove the SIM card tray.
Inspect and replace damaged SIM card gasket
or entire tray if necessary.
Unplug your phone and power it off.
Risk of glass breakage — proceed with caution.
Use strong tape or superglue as last resort if adhesion fails.
Avoid excessive force with opening pick, or risk cracking back cover glass.
Never apply too much pressure on the curved corners — risk of cracking the glass panel.
Apply a iOpener preheated to operating temperature to the left edge of the back cover for exactly two minutes.
Apply a suction cup to the phone's back, near its left center edge.
This may require multiple attempts due to tight tolerances.
If necessary, reapply heat or add a few drops of high concentration isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) into the seam to aid in adhesive loosening.
Do not apply excessive force with the pick, as this may crack the back cover glass.
Insert the pick at an angle, then push down gently to loosen the back cover's adhesive.
Slide the pick along the left edge of the phone to separate the back cover's adhesive.
Be careful when sliding across the ridge in the frame surrounding the volume and power buttons, as the cutout in the glass may increase the risk of cracking.
Excessive heat can damage the display and internal battery.
Apply a suction cup near the right edge's center.
Slide a pick along the right edge of the phone to separate the back cover's adhesive.
Leave the pick under the right edge of the glass near the top to prevent re-adhesion.
Heat an iOpener and apply it to the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.
Be gentle when handling the back cover as the curved glass near the corners is prone to cracking.
Apply gentle pressure to lift the back cover.
Before reassembling, power on your phone and test all functions to ensure everything is working correctly. Be sure to power it down completely before continuing work.
When using custom-cut adhesives, consult the relevant guide for specific instructions.
For double-sided tape, follow the instructions provided with the product.
Remove the six 4 mm-long screws securing the motherboard bracket using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
Use a pair of tweezers to gently lift and unclip the motherboard bracket from the plastic midframe.
Do not fully remove the bracket at this stage, as it remains attached to the wireless charging coil.
Adjust the motherboard bracket to expose the orange battery connector.
Be cautious when disconnecting the battery connector — risk of damaging nearby surface-mounted components.
Disconnect the wireless charging coil connector by gently prying it up with a spudger.
Use a pair of tweezers to carefully separate the wireless charging coil from the device.
Remove the five 4mm screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
Insert the point of a spudger or a pair of tweezers into the notch at the top left corner of the midframe and pry up to release the clips.
Do not press down on the middle of press connectors to avoid pin bending.
Re-attach by aligning the connector and pressing down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side.
Remove both flex cables (main and auxiliary) by gently peeling them away.
Remove the left 5G antenna cable, prying it gently up from its socket on the motherboard.
Peel up and bend the display and left 5G antenna flex cables to clear the motherboard and battery.
Remove the upper midframe using a Phillips #00 screwdriver. The midframe is secured by three screws, each measuring 4 mm long.
Disconnect the side button flex cable by prying it away from the motherboard.
Disconnect the upper 5G antenna cable from the motherboard.
Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully pry up one corner of the 5G millimeter wave antenna module.
The adhesive securing the module may be weak, but still handle with care.
Remove the screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
Locate the ultrawide camera connector on the motherboard.
Disconnect the telephoto and wide-angle camera connector using a spudger.
Disconnect and remove the rear-facing camera module.
