Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus Loudspeaker Replacement

Replacing the lower midframe may cause damage to other components — proceed with caution.

  • Remove the lower midframe using a soft prying tool, taking care not to damage any surrounding components.
  • The loudspeaker is integrated into this assembly and will also need to be replaced simultaneously.
  • Ensure you have replacement adhesive for reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 1 image

Unplug and power off your phone before starting work.

  • Heat an iOpener for two minutes and apply it to the back cover's bottom edge.

Step 2 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the phone's back near its center, at the bottom edge.

If the display is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better suction or use strong tape instead of the suction cup.

  • Use a strong, steady force to create a gap between the back cover and frame with the suction cup.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Due to tight tolerances, multiple attempts may be needed before getting it right.

Apply more heat if you have trouble creating a gap.

Avoid applying excessive force with the pick to prevent back cover glass cracking.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 3

Slide a pick back and forth along the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive.

Avoid cutting near the phone's corners, where curved glass may crack.

Leave your pick in the seam to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Heat the left edge

Step 4 image

Place iOpener on the left edge of the back cover and heat for 2 minutes.

Step 5 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the phone's back, near the left edge's center.

  • Pull the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, ensuring its tip is under the glass's edge.

Due to tight tolerances, multiple attempts may be necessary. Excessive force with the pick can crack the back cover glass.

Alternatively, apply heat or a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol into the seam to loosen adhesive.

Step 6

Step 6 image

Insert the pick under the glass's edge.

  • Tilt the pick downward.
  • Insert the pick further to separate the back cover's adhesive completely.

Step 7

Careful when sliding across the volume and power button ridge, as the cutout in the glass can crack easily.

  • Slide a pick along the left edge of the phone to separate the back cover's adhesive.
  • Leave the pick under the left edge of the glass to prevent resealing.

Step 8 | Heat the right edge

Step 8 image

Excessive heat can damage the display and internal battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but avoid overheating the phone.

Step 9 | Separate the right edge adhesive

  • Suction cup should be applied to the right edge, as close to the center as possible.
  • Pull on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
    • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
    • Tilt the opening pick downward to fully insert it underneath the back cover.

Step 10

Slide a pick along the right edge of the phone to separate the back cover's adhesive.

Leave the pick under the right edge of the glass near the top to prevent resealing.

  • The back cover may release other picks, allowing them to fall free.
  • Set aside any released picks; the bottom edge should not reseal from this point onward.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Step 11 image

Apply iOpener to the top edge of the back cover and heat for 2 minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image

Be gentle when handling the curved glass near the corners of the back cover, as it is prone to cracking.

  • Slide a pick from the right edge around the top right corner of the device, gradually working your way along the top edge.
  • Continue slicing along the top edge until you reach the left edge, fully separating the back cover adhesive in the process.
  • If cutting becomes difficult at any point, stop and reapply heat before continuing.

Step 13 | Remove the back cover

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 2

Remove the back cover by lifting it slowly and using opening picks to separate any remaining adhesive.

  • Power on your phone during reassembly and test all functions before sealing the device.
  • Power down your phone completely before continuing with the repair process.
  • Remove any loose adhesive chunks with tweezers or your fingers, applying heat if necessary for separation.

If using custom-cut adhesives or double-sided tape, follow separate guides provided for these materials.

Step 14 | Unfasten the motherboard bracket

Step 14 image

Remove the motherboard bracket using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

  • Loosen six 4 mm-long screws securing the motherboard bracket.
  • Label and store each screw separately to ensure correct reinstallation.

Step 15 | Unclip the motherboard bracket

Step 15 image

Do not separate the motherboard bracket from the wireless charging coil — risk of damaging the coil.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to gently pull up on the motherboard bracket.
  • The bracket should unclip from the plastic midframe; do not completely remove it yet.

Step 16

Thumbnail 3

Use a pair of tweezers to gently peel the wireless charging coil away from the device.

  • Remove the wireless charging coil completely.
  • During reassembly:
    • Reconnect the battery connectors and wireless charging coil connector.
    • Refasten the motherboard bracket screws to secure everything in place.
    • Firmly press the coil pad down to ensure proper adhesion.

Step 20 | Unfasten the lower midframe

Step 20 image

Remove the five 4 mm screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

  • The screws secure the loudspeaker and lower midframe.

Step 21 | Remove the loudspeaker

Step 21 image

Use a spudger or tweezers to pry up the clips on the top left corner of the midframe.

  • Insert the point into the notch.
  • Pry gently until the clips release.

Be careful not to damage the surrounding components.

Once the clips are released, carefully lift out the loudspeaker and lower midframe.
