Thumbnail 2

Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or straightened paperclip into the top edge SIM tray hole next to the plastic antenna band.

If inserted incorrectly, the microphone and ingress gasket are protected.

  • Press in firmly to eject the SIM tray.

Step 2 | Remove the SIM tray

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 2

Remove the SIM card tray.

  • The SIM card will fall out easily.
  • When reinserting, ensure the SIM card is correctly oriented in the SIM card tray.
  • A rubber gasket on the SIM tray protects against water and dust. If damaged or missing, replace it or the entire SIM tray to safeguard internal components.

Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 3 image

Unplug and power off your phone before proceeding.

  • Apply heat to the back cover's bottom edge using an iOpener for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious of overheating and potential damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 4 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the phone's back near the bottom center edge.

If your display is badly cracked, secure it with clear packing tape for better suction adhesion.

  • Attempt to remove the back cover using strong steady force on the suction cup.
  • If unsuccessful, use strong tape or superglue instead of the suction cup as an alternative.

Insert an opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup.

Avoid applying excessive force with the pick to prevent back cover glass cracking.

  • If reheating and separating multiple times is necessary, due to tight tolerances.
  • Apply more heat if having trouble creating a gap between the back cover and frame.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Risk of cracking the glass panel if attempting to cut near curved edges.

  • Slide a pick along the bottom edge, back and forth, to slice through the adhesive.
  • Avoid cutting near corners where the glass is curved.
  • Leave the pick in the seam to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 6 | Heat the left edge

Step 6 image

Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 7 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Step 7 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup near the center of the left edge.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, making sure its tip is under the glass's edge.

Due to tight tolerances, this may take multiple attempts or applying heat and alcohol.

Be gentle with the pick to avoid cracking the back cover glass.

Step 8

Step 8 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Continue to gently lower the pick while keeping it positioned under the edge of the glass.

  • Tilt the pick downwards, maintaining contact with the glass's edge.
  • Insert the pick further into the gap to fully release the back cover's adhesive.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 3

Be cautious when navigating the ridge near the volume and power buttons, as it can crack the glass.

  • Slide the pick along the left edge of the phone to separate the back cover's adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place under the left edge of the glass to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 10 | Heat the right edge

Step 10 image

Be cautious when applying external heat - excessive heat can damage the display and internal battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but monitor the temperature closely to avoid overheating.

Step 11 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Step 11 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply suction cup near center right edge.

  • Pull suction cup firmly to create a gap between back cover and frame.
  • Insert opening pick into gap, tilting downward for full insertion.

Step 12

Step 12 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Slide a pick along the right edge of the phone to break the back cover's adhesive.

  • Leave the pick under the right edge of the glass, near the top of the device, to prevent resealing.
  • If other picks are released and fall free, set them aside; the bottom edge should not reseal from this point onward.

Step 13 | Heat the top edge

Step 13 image

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 14 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Step 14 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Be gentle when handling the curved glass near the corners of the back cover.

  • Slide a pick from the right edge of the device around the top right corner.
  • Continue slicing along the top edge to the left, fully separating the back cover adhesive.

If slicing becomes difficult, stop and reapply heat before continuing.

Step 15 | Remove the back cover

Step 15 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Slowly lift the back cover and use opening picks to slice any remaining adhesive.

  • Remove the back cover.

Power on your phone during reassembly and test all functions before sealing it up, then power it down completely.

  • Remove any adhesive chunks with a pair of tweezers or your fingers.
  • Apply heat if necessary to separate the adhesive.

If using custom-cut adhesives, follow this guide. If using double-sided tape, follow this guide.

Step 16 | Unfasten the motherboard bracket

Step 16 image

Remove the motherboard bracket by unscrewing the six 4mm screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

Keep track of each screw and ensure it is replaced in its original position.

Step 17 | Unclip the motherboard bracket

Step 17 image
