Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus Battery Replacement

If your battery is swollen, take precautions and do not heat your phone — risk of explosion.

  • Discharge your battery below 25% before disassembling to reduce thermal event risk.
  • Use high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol to loosen the strong adhesive holding the battery in place.
  • Have replacement adhesive available for completing this repair.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 1 image

Unplug your phone and power it off.

  • iOpener: Heat for two minutes and apply to the back cover's bottom edge.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate; however, be cautious not to overheat your phone as the display and internal battery are prone to heat damage.

Step 2 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the phone's back, near the center of the bottom edge.

  • If the display is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • Alternatively, use strong tape or superglue the suction cup to the broken glass if needed.

Pull the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap once it's created.
  • Reheat with the iOpener and try again if necessary due to tight tolerances.

Avoid applying excessive force with the pick, which can crack the back cover glass.

If trouble persists, apply more heat and try again.

Risk of cracked glass if cutting near curved edges.

  • Slide a pick back and forth along the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive.
  • Avoid cutting near corners where the glass is curved to prevent cracking.
  • Leave your pick in the seam to keep the adhesive from resealing.

Step 4 | Heat the left edge

Step 4 image

Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 5 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Apply a suction cup to the left edge, close to center.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, just beneath the curved glass edge.

Due to tight tolerances, this may take multiple attempts.

Apply gentle heat and isopropyl alcohol (over 90% concentration) if needed.

Avoid applying excessive force with the pick, or you risk cracking the glass.

Be gentle when handling the curved glass near the corners of the back cover, as it is prone to cracking.

  • Start by sliding a pick from the right edge around the top right corner, gradually applying more pressure.
  • Continue slicing along the top edge, moving clockwise until you reach the left edge to fully separate the adhesive.
  • If the process becomes difficult, stop and reapply heat before resuming.

Step 13 | Remove the back cover
