A fully charged lithium-ion battery may pose a risk of explosion if damaged.

  • Allow the battery to drain below 25% capacity before proceeding.

Power off the device and disconnect any connected cables.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 2 image

Excessive heat may warp the back cover.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer with caution to avoid damage.

Apply a suction cup to the center of the back cover's bottom edge, as close to the edge as possible.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and frame.
  • This may require significant force. If necessary, reapply heat and try again.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap created.

Step 4 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Caution: Excessive heat may damage the back cover.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer but be cautious not to apply extreme heat that could warp the back cover.

Step 6 | Slice the right adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the bottom right corner of the device.

  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge, working it up to the top right corner.
  • The opening pick will slice the adhesive as you move it.
  • Leave the opening pick in place at the top right corner for the next step.

Step 7 | Heat the top edge

Be cautious when using heat, as excessive temperature may damage the back cover.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the left edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • A hair dryer can be used as an alternative; however, use care and avoid extreme heat.

Step 10 | Slice the left adhesive
