Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G USB-C Port and Charging Board Replacement

Replace the USB-C port and charging board in your Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G with this guide.

  • Check if cleaning dust, dirt, and lint from the charging port resolves the issue using compressed air and tweezers.
  • If necessary, replace the entire USB-C port and charging board as a single assembly due to soldering.

Ensure you have replacement back cover adhesive for reassembly.

Step 1 | Before you begin

Let the battery drain to 25% or less before starting.

  • Power off the device using the power button.
  • Disconnect all external power sources, including any cables and adapters.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Apply heat to the back cover's bottom edge using an iOpener or a hair dryer

  • Heat for two minutes.
  • Be cautious when using a hair dryer, as excessive heat may warp the back cover.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back cover.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong force to create a gap.
  • This may require significant force, apply more heat if needed.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Step 4 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the bottom right corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing.

Step 5 | Heat the right edge

Using excessive heat may warp the back cover.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • A hair dryer can also be used, but use caution to avoid overheating.

Step 6 | Slice the right adhesive

  • Insert an opening pick into the bottom right corner.
  • Guide it along the right edge, slicing the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick lodged in the top right corner.

Step 7 | Heat the top edge

Excessive heat may damage the back cover.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the top edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer but be cautious not to apply extreme heat.

Step 8 | Slice the top adhesive

  • Slide the opening pick around the top right corner and along the top edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick inserted in the top left corner.

Step 9 | Heat the left edge

Do not apply excessive heat to the back cover.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the left edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer with caution: extreme heat can warp the back cover.

Step 10 | Slice the left adhesive

Start at the top left corner and slide the opening pick downwards along the left edge, slicing through the remaining adhesive.

Step 11 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • If it remains stuck, slide a precision opening pick around the edges to release any leftover adhesive.

Step 12 | Reassembly information

Power on your device during reassembly and test functions before sealing.

Make sure it's completely powered down before continuing work.

  • If reinstalling old back cover, use tweezers or fingers to remove adhesive from back and frame.
  • Use highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) and microfiber cloth to clean remaining adhesive residue.

Apply custom-cut adhesive using this guide.

  • If installing new back cover, remove liners and press firmly around perimeter for secure fit.

Step 13 | Unfasten the wireless charging assembly

Remove the wireless charging assembly in one piece, including the motherboard cover, wireless charging coil, and loudspeaker, held together by graphite tape.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove 16 screws:
    • Nine 4 mm-long screws securing the motherboard cover.
    • Seven 4.5 mm-long screws securing the loudspeaker.

Step 14 | Unclip the motherboard cover

Locate the motherboard cover and insert a pick under its bottom right edge.

  • Twist the pick to release the clips securing the cover.
  • Repeat on the bottom left edge by inserting and twisting an opening pick.

Apply firm pressure around the perimeter during reassembly to engage the clips securely.

Step 15 | Reposition the motherboard cover

Move the motherboard cover to gain access to the battery connector and wireless charging press connectors.

Step 16 | Disconnect the battery

Avoid pressing down in the middle of a re-attached press connector — risk of pin bending.

  • Use a spudger's flat end to pry up the battery and wireless charging press connectors from the motherboard.
  • To reconnect, carefully align one side, then press until it clicks into place; repeat on the other side.

Step 17 | Unclip the loudspeaker

Insert a spudger between the lower left corner of the loudspeaker and its frame.

  • Pry up to release the clips on the left edge of the loudspeaker.
  • Pry up the bottom right corner to release the remaining clips.
  • During reassembly, press down firmly around the perimeter to engage the clips.

Step 18 | Remove the wireless charging assembly

Locate and detach the wireless charging assembly.

Step 19 | Disconnect the charging board cables

Insert the flat end of the spudger under the display cable press connector

  • Pry upwards carefully to release the connector.
  • Once released, lift and disconnect the display cable from the charging board.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor and interconnect cable press connectors using a spudger.

Slide one arm of your angled tweezers under the head of the white antenna cable.

Gently lift straight up to disconnect the cable, taking care not to damage the connector or cable.

  • Repeat the process for the red antenna cable.
  • To reattach: align the connector over its socket and press down with the flat end of a spudger, applying gentle pressure until it snaps into place. Be prepared for multiple attempts.

Disconnect the red and white antenna cables from the charging board.

  • Route the cables to the correct position along the phone's right edge, ensuring they fit within their designated channels.
  • Reattach the cables to their clips on the charging board.

Step 23 | Unfasten the charging board

Remove the charging board by unscrewing the Phillips head screw using a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 24 | Pry up the charging board

Use a spudger to carefully lift the left side of the charging board.

  • Gently pry the board until you can grasp it with your fingers.

Step 25 | Remove the charging board

Grasp the charging board by the top edge and pull it out of its recess at a 45-degree angle.

  • During reassembly, ensure that the five cables to the motherboard are clear to prevent them getting stuck underneath.
  • Insert the charging board at a downward angle, guiding the USB-C port into its recess.
  • Push the charging board firmly down until it's snug in its recess.
