Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G Telephoto Camera Replacement

Verify that camera issues persist even with a clean rear lens cover before proceeding.

  • Ensure the issue is indeed with the telephoto camera and not another component.
  • Replace the rear lens cover first if it's damaged, following its own guide for replacement.
  • Gather replacement back cover adhesive to complete reassembly.

Let the battery drain to 25% or lower before starting.

  • Power off your phone completely.
  • Unplug all cables and connectors.

Step 2 image

Apply iOpener or carefully use a hair dryer to heat the bottom edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

  • Use an iOpener and apply it to the designated area for 2 minutes.
  • If using a hair dryer, be cautious not to warp the back cover with extreme heat.

Apply a suction cup to the center of the back cover's bottom edge, as close to the edge as possible.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and frame.
  • If necessary, apply more heat before trying again, due to significant required force.
  • Insert an opening pick in the created gap.

Step 4 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the bottom right corner and slide it along the bottom edge to cut the adhesive.

  • Make sure the pick remains in place to prevent re-sealment of the adhesive.

Step 5 | Heat the right edge

Step 5 image

Apply a iOpener to the right edge of the back cover and heat for two minutes.

Alternatively, use a hair dryer but exercise caution: excessive heat can warp the back cover.

Insert an opening pick at the bottom right corner of the device.

  • Guide the opening pick along the right edge, slicing through the adhesive as you go.
  • Leave the opening pick lodged in the top right corner for the next step.

Step 7 | Heat the top edge

Step 7 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the top edge of the back cover for two minutes.

Using a hair dryer may cause the back cover to warp; use with caution.

  • Leave the pick inserted in the top left corner for future reference.

Step 9 | Heat the left edge

Power on your device and test all functions before sealing it up during reassembly.

Ensure the device is powered down completely before continuing work.

  • If reinstalling the old back cover, peel off the old adhesive using tweezers or your fingers from the back cover and frame.
  • Use highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) and a microfiber cloth to remove any remaining adhesive residue.
  • Apply new custom-cut adhesive using this guide.

If installing a new back cover, peel off the liners and press firmly around the perimeter to secure it to the frame.
