Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G Screen Replacement

This guide is only suitable for cracked or damaged screens; other issues may require a different procedure.

  • Check that your new screen looks frameless, as this guide assumes so.
  • The old screen will be destroyed during removal due to strong adhesive.

Replacement adhesive is required for reassembly of the back cover and screen.

Ensure battery discharge is below 25% to prevent accidental puncture risk.

  • Power off the device.
  • Unplug all cables from the device.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 2 image

Apply heat using an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Alternatively, use a hair dryer, but be cautious not to apply excessive heat, which may warp the back cover.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the center of the back cover's bottom edge.

Pull up on the suction handle with strong force to create a gap between the cover and frame — this may require significant effort.

  • If struggling, apply more heat and try again.
  • Insert an opening pick in the created gap.

Step 4 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the bottom right corner, then slide it along the bottom edge of the device to separate the adhesive holding the back cover.

  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 5 | Heat the right edge

Step 5 image

Careful not to overheat - extreme heat may warp the back cover.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer but be cautious and monitor temperature closely.

Step 6 | Slice the right adhesive

Step 6 image

Power on your device and test all functions during reassembly.

Ensure the device is powered down completely before continuing work.

  • If reinstalling old back cover, peel off old adhesive from back cover and frame using tweezers or fingers.
  • Remove remaining adhesive residue with highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) and a microfiber cloth.
  • Apply new custom-cut adhesive according to the provided guide.

For new back cover, peel off liners and press firmly around perimeter to secure back cover to frame.

Step 13 | Unfasten the wireless charging assembly

Step 13 image

Excessive heat can cause damage to the phone's components.

  • Flip your phone over and apply heat to the top edge of the screen using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Be cautious not to use extreme heat, as it can warp the back cover and damage the battery.

Step 22 | Insert a Jimmy

Step 22 image

Apply a suction cup to the center of the screen's top edge, as close to the edge as possible.

  • If your screen is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape to help the suction cup adhere.
  • Alternatively, use very strong tape instead of a suction cup, or superglue the suction cup to the broken screen if necessary.

Insert a Jimmy in the earpiece speaker cutout at a downward angle.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong, steady force while prying up with the Jimmy.
  • The Jimmy should slide under the digitizer. Significant force is required on the suction handle.
  • If you're having trouble, apply more heat and try again.

Step 23 | Insert an opening pick

Step 23 image

  • Gradually detach the LCD panel from its frame using a gentle prying motion.
  • Remove any remaining glass fragments from the frame, taking care to avoid breakage.

Step 30

Step 30 image

Remove any remaining screen adhesive from the frame using tweezers and a spudger.

  • Clean the perimeter of the frame with high-concentration isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth.
  • Carefully apply custom-cut screen adhesive to the frame, ensuring proper orientation by using the cutouts in the liner and the contours of the frame's perimeter.

Remove any liners or tape from the replacement screen, paying particular attention to the front camera and fingerprint sensor areas.

  • Thread the screen cable through its cutout near the bottom left corner.
  • Lay the screen onto the frame and press firmly around the perimeter to secure it with the adhesive.
