Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G Front Camera Replacement

Bad image quality, focusing issues, or no photo capture may require replacing the front camera of your Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G.

  • Replace the front camera according to this guide.
  • Purchase replacement back cover adhesive for reassembly.

Step 1 | Before you begin

Let the battery level drop to at least 25% before starting.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Unplug all external cables.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Apply heat to the bottom edge of the back cover using an iOpener for 2 minutes.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, but be cautious not to apply excessive heat, which may warp the back cover.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply suction cup to bottom edge of back cover, as close to edge as possible.

This will require significant force; if you're having trouble, apply more heat and try again.

  • Pull up on suction handle with strong, steady force to create gap between cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Insert an opening pick at the bottom edge and slide it along to cut the adhesive.

  • Leave the opening pick in place in the bottom right corner.
  • This will prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 5 | Heat the right edge

Avoid applying excessive heat to the back cover, as it may warp.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • As an alternative, use a hair dryer, but exercise caution and avoid extreme heat.

Step 6 | Slice the right adhesive

Insert the opening pick into the bottom right corner.

  • Slide it along the right edge, slicing the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place at the top right corner.

Step 7 | Heat the top edge

Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the back cover and let it sit for 2 minutes.

Alternatively, use a hair dryer, but be cautious not to apply extreme heat as it may warp the back cover.

Step 8 | Slice the top adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the top right corner of the device.

  • Slice the adhesive along the top edge by sliding the pick around the corner.
  • Leave the pick inserted in the top left corner for further use.

Step 9 | Heat the left edge

Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the back cover and let it sit for 2 minutes.

Using a hair dryer is an alternative method, but be cautious not to apply extreme heat, which may warp the back cover.

Step 10 | Slice the left adhesive

Slide the opening pick around the top left corner, then down the entire left edge of the device.

  • This will help to remove any remaining adhesive from the area.

Step 11 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • If it's still stuck, use an opening pick to slide along the perimeter and break any remaining adhesive.

Step 12 | Reassembly information

Power on your device and test all functions during reassembly.

Make sure to power it down completely before proceeding.

  • If reinstalling old back cover: Remove old adhesive from back cover and frame with tweezers or fingers.
  • Soak remaining adhesive residue with highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) on microfiber cloth.
  • Apply new custom-cut adhesive, following the provided guide.

If installing new back cover: Peel off liners and press firmly around perimeter to secure.

Step 13 | Unfasten the motherboard cover

Remove the motherboard cover with a Phillips screwdriver.

  • There are nine 4 mm screws holding it in place.

Step 14 | Unclip the motherboard cover

Insert a pick under the bottom right edge of the motherboard cover.

  • Twist the pick to release the clips securing the cover.
  • Insert and twist an opening pick on the bottom left edge of the cover to release the remaining clips.

Apply firm pressure around the perimeter during reassembly to engage the clips securely.

Step 15 | Reposition the motherboard cover

Remove the motherboard cover to expose the bottom edge of the motherboard.

Step 16 | Disconnect the battery

Use a spudger to pry up the battery press connector from the motherboard.

  • For re-attachment, align the connector carefully and press down on one side until it clicks in place.
  • Repeat the process for the other side. Do not press down in the middle of the connector.

Misaligned connectors can cause permanent damage to the pins, so be precise when re-attaching.

Step 17 | Remove the front camera

Careful handling is required when disconnecting the front camera, as ejection can occur unexpectedly.

  • Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up and release the front camera press connector.
  • Remove the front camera once disconnected.
