Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G Earpiece Speaker Replacement

This guide replaces a faulty earpiece speaker on Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G devices. Replace the earpiece if it's silent or sounds poor quality.

  • The speaker is attached to the motherboard cover.

If your replacement part includes wireless charging coil and loudspeaker, follow the wireless charging assembly guide instead.

You'll need new back cover adhesive for reassembly.

Step 1 | Before you begin

Let your battery discharge below 25% before proceeding — a charged lithium-ion battery may be hazardous to handle.

  • Switch off your device using the power button.
  • Disconnect all external power and data cables.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 2 image

Apply heat carefully — excessive heat may damage the back cover.

  • Use an iOpener or a hair dryer to heat the bottom edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • (Using a hair dryer: be cautious, as extreme heat can warp the back cover.)

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply excessive heat carefully as it may cause damage.

  • Attach a suction cup to the center of the back cover's bottom edge, aligning with the edge for maximum effect.
  • Pull up firmly on the suction handle until a gap forms between the cover and frame.

If unsuccessful, apply additional heat and try again.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Insert an opening pick at the bottom edge and slide it along to cut the adhesive.

Avoid removing the opening pick entirely, as this may cause the adhesive to seal back over.

  • Leave the opening pick in place, inserted into the bottom right corner.

Step 5 | Heat the right edge

Step 5 image

Do not apply excessive heat that may warp the back cover.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, but with caution and moderate temperature settings.

Step 6 | Slice the right adhesive

Power on your device and test all functions before sealing it up during reassembly.

Be sure to power down completely before continuing work.

  • If reinstalling old back cover, use tweezers or fingers to peel off adhesive from frame.
  • Use highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) and microfiber cloth to remove remaining residue.
  • Follow guide to apply new custom-cut adhesive.

If installing new back cover, peel off liners and press firmly around perimeter to secure to frame.

  • To reconnect, align one side of the connector and press down until it clicks into place. Repeat on the other side.
  • Avoid pressing down in the middle, as this can cause misalignment and damage to the pins.
