Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G Battery Replacement

Replace the battery in your Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G if it's failing to hold a charge, charges slowly, or shows poor health. A swollen battery requires special precautions.

  • Procure replacement adhesive for reassembly.

Step 1 | Before you begin

Let the battery drain to 25% or less before starting.

  • Power off your device.
  • Unplug all power cords.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Apply iOpener or a hot air tool to the bottom edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Be cautious with excessive heat; it can warp the back cover.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply excessive force may damage the device.

  • Attach a suction cup to the center of the back cover's bottom edge.
  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap.
  • If needed, apply additional heat and try again.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 4 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the bottom edge and slide it along to cut the adhesive.

Make sure the opening pick remains inserted in the bottom right corner to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.

Step 5 | Heat the right edge

Careful not to apply excessive heat.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer on low setting to heat the area, but be cautious against warping the back cover.

Step 6 | Slice the right adhesive

  • Slide a opening pick along the bottom right corner, then up the entire right edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick lodged in the top right corner for further use.

Step 7 | Heat the top edge

Use a heated iOpener on the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, but be cautious to avoid excessive heat which can warp the back cover.

Step 8 | Slice the top adhesive

  • Opening pick: Slide around top right corner, then along top edge to cut adhesive.
  • Insert pick into top left corner and leave it there.

Step 9 | Heat the left edge

Be cautious when using high heat sources.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the left edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer but avoid extreme temperatures to prevent warping the back cover.

Step 10 | Slice the left adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the top left corner.

  • Work it along the left edge, slicing through any remaining adhesive.

Step 11 | Remove the back cover

  • Remove the back cover.
  • If it's stuck, use an opening pick to carefully scrape the adhesive along the perimeter.

Power on your device during reassembly and test all functions before sealing it up.

Make sure to power down completely before continuing work.

  • If reinstalling old back cover, use tweezers or fingers to remove old adhesive from frame.
  • Use highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol and microfiber cloth to remove remaining adhesive residue.
  • Follow application guide for custom-cut adhesive installation.
  • If installing new back cover, peel off liners and press firmly around perimeter to secure.

Step 13 | Unfasten the wireless charging assembly

Remove the wireless charging assembly as a single unit, which includes the motherboard cover, wireless charging coil, and loudspeaker.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove all 16 screws.
  • Nine 4 mm-long screws secure the motherboard cover.
  • Seven 4.5 mm-long screws secure the loudspeaker.

Step 14 | Unclip the motherboard cover

Insert a pick under the bottom right edge of the motherboard cover.

  • Twist the pick to release the clips securing the cover.
  • Repeat on the bottom left edge with another pick.

During reassembly, press down firmly around the perimeter of the motherboard cover to engage the clips.

Step 15 | Reposition the motherboard cover

Move the motherboard cover to expose the battery and wireless charging press connectors.

Step 16 | Disconnect the battery

Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up and disconnect the battery and wireless charging press connectors from the motherboard.

  • To reattach press connectors, carefully align them and press down on one side until it clicks into place. Repeat this process for the other side.
  • Do not press down in the middle of the connector, as misalignment can cause permanent damage to the pins.

Step 17 | Unclip the loudspeaker

Insert spudger point between loudspeaker's bottom left corner and frame.

  • Pry up to release clips on left edge of loudspeaker.
  • Pry up bottom right corner of loudspeaker to release remaining clips.

During reassembly, press down firmly around perimeter to engage clips securely.

Step 18 | Remove the wireless charging assembly

Disconnect and remove the wireless charging assembly.

Step 19 | Disconnect the interconnect cable

Insert the flat end of a spudger under the interconnect cable press connector.

Apply gentle pressure with the spudger to release the connection from the motherboard.

Disconnect the interconnect cable press connector from the charging board.

Step 21 | Remove the interconnect cable

Disconnect the interconnect cable.

Reattach the back cover to the phone frame for component protection.

Extreme heat can damage the display or battery and create a fire hazard.

  • Flip your phone over and apply a heated iOpener to the middle of the screen for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.

Step 24 | Remove the back cover

Turn the phone over and take off the back cover.

  • If the back cover is stuck due to dried-on adhesive, reapply an opening pick to carefully lift it.

Step 25 | Pry up the right edge of the battery

Beware: Puncturing or bending the battery poses risk of chemical leakage and fire.

  • Attach a suction cup to the center of the battery.
  • Insert an opening pick between the right edge of the battery and frame, using its flat side.
  • Pull up on the suction cup with steady force while simultaneously prying up with the pick until the battery lifts free.
  • Avoid excessive force; use slow, consistent pressure instead.

If stuck, apply 1-2 drops of highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) along the right edge and retry after 1 minute. Be cautious not to damage the display with excessive alcohol use.

Step 26 | Slice the adhesive

Move the opening pick back and forth under the battery.

This will help to slice through the adhesive.

Step 27 | Remove the battery

Remove the battery.

  • If using isopropyl alcohol, wait 10 minutes for complete evaporation.
  • Then, install the new battery.

Step 28 | Battery installation information

Remove old adhesive from frame using tweezers or fingers.

  • Apply highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) with microfiber cloth to remove remaining residue.
  • Temporarily connect replacement battery's cable and lay battery in recess for proper fit and orientation.

If using custom-cut adhesive, follow specific application guide. Otherwise, apply Tesa Tape directly to battery recess.

Lay replacement battery in recess and press down firmly on entire surface to secure.
