Samsung Galaxy S10e Fingerprint Sensor Replacement

This repair involves removing and replacing the fingerprint sensor on your Samsung Galaxy S10e, which requires complete disassembly of the phone, including removal of the screen that will be destroyed in the process.

  • Prior to starting, ensure you have a replacement screen available.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Opening your phone will breach its waterproof seals; have replacement adhesive prepared for reassembly.

Ensure the phone is completely powered off before starting this repair.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply heat to the right edge of the back cover for about two minutes.
  • Reheat and reapply the iOpener as needed, following its instructions to avoid overheating.

Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate but exercise caution: excessive heat can damage the OLED display or internal battery.

Step 2 | Prepare to slice the adhesive

Locate the adhesive layout as shown in the first image, where the back cover's inside has been exposed.

  • Slice through the highlighted areas on the outside of the phone to cut through the adhesive.
  • The thinnest layer of adhesive is located on the right side, just below the Bixby button.

Step 3 | Secure a suction cup

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Apply a suction cup to the back cover, just below the Bixby button where the adhesive is thinnest.

  • Avoid placing the suction cup on the curved edge of the glass.
  • If the phone's back cover is cracked, try using strong tape or superglue to secure the suction cup in place and allow it to cure.

Step 4 | Create an opening gap

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Excessive force or improper tools may damage the phone's rear glass.

  • Prop up the heated phone on a support of at least 0.5 inches (13 mm) thickness for easier access.
  • Lift the back cover's right edge with a suction cup, creating a small gap between it and the frame.
  • Use gentle force; if needed, apply more heat and try again due to rapidly cooling adhesive.
  • Follow iOpener heating instructions to avoid overheating and bursting the gel pack.
  • Pry open the phone with a non-metallic opening tool at the created gap.

Step 5

  • Insert the opening tool into the phone's right edge.
  • Run the tool along the edge to cut through the adhesive holding the back cover in place.

Step 6

Insert a opening pick next to the opening tool, leaving it in place to prevent re-adhesion of the separated glue.

Step 7

Step 7 image

Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the phone and heat for 2 minutes.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick near the top right corner of the phone and slide it around the corner and across the top edge.

Be cautious as the glued area is larger here, requiring a deeper insertion to separate it effectively.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent re-adhesion of the adhesive.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Apply iOpener to left edge for 2 minutes.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Insert opening pick at a bottom corner of the phone.

  • Slide along the bottom edge to separate adhesive.
  • Be cautious, as the glued area is larger here and requires more force.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 3

Use a opening pick to carefully pry up the back cover.

Stop prying if you encounter resistance; use the opening pick to cut any remaining adhesive instead.

  • Continue removing the back cover once all adhesives are released.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Turn on your phone and test the repair before applying new adhesive.

  • Reinstall the back cover, or just clean away large chunks of old adhesive if desired.
  • If replacing adhesive, apply it to the back cover and secure with pressure, though note that waterproofing will be compromised.

Step 15 | Remove the midframe

Step 15 image

Remove the 8 x 3.9 mm Phillips screws that secure the upper midframe.

Step 16

Step 16 image

Step 18

Step 18 image

Locate the plastic midframe section and lift the midframe out of the phone.

  • When reinstalling, insert the top edge of the assembly into the phone's frame first.
  • Gently press down on the rest of the assembly to snap it securely into place.

Never press down in the middle of the connector — risk of pin bending and permanent damage.

  • Use a spudger to pry up the screen connector from its motherboard socket.
  • To re-attach, align carefully and press one side until it clicks into place. Repeat on the other side.

Step 24 | Disconnect the fingerprint sensor

Step 24 image

Insert the spudger's point under the fingerprint sensor connector and gently pry it loose, then lift it away from the motherboard socket.

Step 25 | Remove the fingerprint sensor bracket

Step 25 image

Remove the fingerprint sensor bracket's 2 x 4 mm Phillips screws using a Phillips driver.

Step 26

Step 26 image

Use caution when applying heat to avoid damage.

  • Place a iOpener on the fingerprint sensor bracket and apply heat for one minute.

Step 27

Step 27 image

Strong adhesive holds the fingerprint sensor bracket in place.

  • Use tweezers to carefully pry up the fingerprint sensor bracket.
  • If it won't move, apply more heat and try again.
  • Once loose, remove the fingerprint sensor bracket.

Step 28 | Loosen the fingerprint sensor cable

Step 28 image

Flip the phone over and position the display for access.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the screen for two minutes.

Be cautious not to overheat, as internal damage can occur.

Note the following seams:

  • Display seam: Prying along this seam will separate the display. It is located above the thin plastic bezel.
  • Frame seam: Do not pry along this seam, as damage to the plastic bezel can occur. It is situated below the thin plastic bezel.

Step 30

Step 30 image

Be cautious not to scratch the display.

  • Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the display.
  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong, steady force until a gap forms.
  • Insert the point of an opening pick into the seam above the plastic bezel.

If device is old or stubborn, reapply heat and try again.

Step 31

Step 31 image
