Samsung Galaxy S10e Battery Replacement

Discharge the battery to below 25% charge before disassembly to avoid thermal risks.

  • Apply a high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol solution to loosen strong adhesive holding the battery in place.
  • If your battery is swollen, take precautions and do not heat your phone during the repair process.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals; have replacement adhesive ready before proceeding.

Turn off your phone completely before starting this repair.

  • Prepare an iOpener and heat the back of the phone along the right edge for about two minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • You may need to reheat and reapply the iOpener several times; follow its instructions to avoid overheating.

If using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, be careful not to overheat your phone: OLED display and internal battery are susceptible to damage.

Step 2 | Prepare to slice the adhesive

Step 2 image

Locate and cut through the highlighted areas on the back of the phone where the adhesive meets the metal casing.

  • Cut carefully through the adhesive on the Bixby button side of the phone, as it is thinnest in this area.
  • Slice through the remaining adhesive in the highlighted areas from the outside of the phone.

Step 3 | Secure a suction cup

Step 3 image

Secure a suction cup to the back cover as close to the heated edge as possible.

  • Position it under the Bixby button, where the adhesive is thinnest.
  • Avoid placing the suction cup on the very edge, as it will not seal properly on curved glass.

  • If the back cover is cracked, try using strong tape or applying superglue to secure the suction cup and allow it to cure before proceeding.

Step 4 | Create an opening gap

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Prop up the heated phone on a 0.5 inches (13 mm) thick surface.

  • Lift the back cover's right edge with your suction cup, creating a slight gap between the cover and frame.
  • Be prepared to apply significant force – if needed, reheat and try again.

Avoid overheating an iOpener or the gel pack may burst.

  • Press the edge of an opening tool into the gap.
  • Use caution to avoid applying too much force, which can cause rear glass breakage.

Step 5

Use a credit card or similar tool to carefully pry along the phone's right edge, separating the back cover from its adhesive.

Step 6

Insert a pick into the edge adjacent to the opening tool.

Leave the pick in place to prevent the separated glue from re-adhering.

Step 7

Step 7 image

Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the phone and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Insert an opening pick near the top right corner of the phone.

  • Slide the pick around the corner and across the top edge of the phone, applying more pressure over the glued area.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent adhesive re-adhesion.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the phone and heat it for 2 minutes.

Insert a new opening pick at the top left corner.

  • Slide it along the left edge of the phone.
  • Leave the pick in place on the left edge to prevent resealing.

Insert an opening pick near a bottom corner of the phone.

  • Slide the pick along the bottom edge of the phone to start separating the adhesive.
  • Continue inserting the pick farther into the phone as needed, due to a larger glued area at this location.

Step 13

Carefully pry up the back cover using the opening picks.

  • If resistance is encountered, stop prying and use an opening pick to remove any remaining adhesive.
  • Continue until the back cover is removed.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Ensure your phone is powered on and functional before proceeding.

  • Remove any large chunks of old adhesive from the back cover.
  • Install the new back cover and apply heat, then pressure, to secure it in place.
  • Note that the phone will not be waterproof without replacing the original adhesive.

Step 15 | Remove the midframe

Step 15 image

Remove the 8 x 3.9 mm Phillips screws that secure the upper midframe.

Step 16

Step 16 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert an opening pick into the gap between the upper midframe and lower midframe, positioning it at the bottom right corner.

  • The goal is to release the adhesive securing these two components together.

Step 17

Step 17 image

Locate the small cutout on the upper midframe's right edge.

  • Insert the spudger's point into the cutout.
  • Pry the midframe upward from the phone chassis using the spudger.

Step 18

Step 18 image

Locate the plastic section of the midframe and lift it by this area.

  • Remove the midframe from the phone.
  • To reinstall:
    • Align the top edge of the assembly with the phone's frame.
    • Gently press down on the rest of the assembly to snap it into place.

Step 19 | Disconnect the battery

Step 19 image

Use the flat end of a spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up from its socket, then disconnect it.

Step 20 | Battery

Step 20 image

Using excessive amounts of isopropyl alcohol or adhesive remover may damage the display.

  • Prop the phone up at an angle to allow adhesive remover to flow from the bottom battery edge toward the top.
  • Apply 1-2 drops of isopropyl alcohol or adhesive remover along the bottom battery edge.
  • Allow it to sit for several minutes, allowing the adhesive to weaken.

Step 21

Step 21 image

Do not apply excessive force to prevent damage and potential fire hazard.

  • Use a spudger with the flat end to carefully pry out the battery.
  • Apply firm, constant pressure at all times.
  • If resistance is encountered or the battery deforms, repeat prying process.
