Samsung Galaxy S10 Screen Replacement

Replace the Samsung Galaxy S10 screen by disassembling the device.

  • Remove the back cover to expose the motherboard and screen connector.
  • Disconnect the screen connector from the motherboard.
  • Remove the broken screen while retaining the original frame.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Unplug and power off your phone before starting.

  • Apply an iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes to loosen the adhesive.
  • If needed, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat: the display and internal battery are prone to damage.
  • Careful not to overheat-the display and internal battery may suffer from heat damage.

  • Refer to an image of a removed back cover to note the adhesive's location before proceeding.

Step 2 | Create an opening gap

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Place the phone at a 13 mm angle by resting its heated right edge on a surface.

  • Suction Cup: Apply firm pressure while bracing the left edge with your fingers.
  • Insert an opening tool into the seam between the back cover and the frame.
  • Slide the tool along the seam, loosening the back cover as you go.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Applying excessive force may crack the back cover glass.

  • Apply heat to an edge of the phone for two minutes using an iOpener.
  • Attach a suction cup to the center of the right edge, as close to the adhesive strip as possible.
  • Pull on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.

Tight tolerances may require multiple attempts to create a gap. Ensure adequate heat is applied before proceeding.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • Consider applying isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) directly to the seam if additional assistance is needed.

Avoid excessive force when using the opening pick to prevent damage to the back cover glass.

Step 4 | Slice through the adhesive

Do not apply excessive force or cut the corner adhesives first — may damage the back cover.

  • Slide an opening pick along the phone's edge, cutting through the adhesive.
  • Leave a pick in the seam to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 5

Apply a heated iOpener to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes.

  • iOpener placement complete, proceed with caution.
  • Insert an opening pick into the right edge near the bottom right corner.
  • Carefully slide the pick around the corner.
  • Continue cutting along the bottom edge and around the bottom left corner.

If cutting feels difficult, re-apply heat to the edge before continuing.

Leave an opening pick in the seam to prevent adhesive from re-sealing.

Continue to heat and slice around the remaining edges.

  • Ensure all edges are completely heated before slicing.
  • Corners require extra heat; make sure they're well-heated before cutting.

Step 7

Insert an opening pick into one edge and twist gently to separate the back cover from the frame.

  • Lift the back cover slowly using multiple opening picks to slice any remaining adhesive.
  • Remove the back cover completely.

Power on your phone, test all functions, and power it down before continuing.

Reassemble by following this guide: reattach the back cover, install camera bezel, and replace adhesive. If desired, reinstall without replacing adhesive, removing large chunks that prevent proper fit. After installation, heat the back cover, apply pressure to secure.

Step 8 | Remove the midframe

Step 8 image

Remove 8 x 4mm Phillips head screws from the top midframe.

Remove the midframe from the phone by lifting it from the top corners.

  • If the top midframe sticks at its bottom right corner, slowly peel it off.
  • To reinstall:
    • Align the midframe's top edge to the phone and lay it down on the phone.
    • Apply pressure along the midframe perimeter using fingers to snap the clips back into place.

Step 11 | Disconnect the battery

Insert the flat end of a spudger underneath the battery connector, attached to the motherboard below the rear-facing camera.

  • Pry upwards to disconnect the connector from its socket, taking care not to dislodge surrounding components.
  • Gently push the battery's flex cable away from the motherboard socket to prevent accidental contact.

Excessive heat can damage the internal battery.

  • Flip the phone over with the display facing up.
  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the screen for two minutes.
  • Alternative heat sources: hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate. Use with caution to avoid overheating.

  • Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the display.
  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap.
  • This may be difficult depending on your device's age. If you have trouble, apply more heat and try again.

  • Insert the point of an opening pick into the gap.

Step 18
