Samsung Galaxy S10 Rear-Facing Camera Module Replacement

This repair involves replacing the rear-facing camera module for the Galaxy S10.

  • The camera module includes all three rear cameras and the surrounding frame.
  • Verify your phone's camera module matches the replacement part before proceeding, as designs may vary depending on the supplier.

This procedure requires motherboard removal and is particularly challenging due to the need to remove the back cover.

Step 1 | Remove the SIM tray

Insert a SIM eject tool, SIM eject bit, or a straightened paperclip into the correct hole on the SIM tray.

  • The correct hole is located at the top edge of the phone next to the plastic antenna band.
  • Press firmly to eject the tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

Ensure the SIM card is properly oriented relative to the tray when reinserting it to avoid damage or malfunction.

Step 2 | Heat the back cover

Power off your phone and unplug it before starting.

  • Apply an iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a heat gun or hot plate (or hair dryer), but be cautious not to overheat the phone.
  • During this time, inspect the image of the removed back cover and note the adhesive locations.

Step 3 | Create an opening gap

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 3

Place the phone at a 13 mm angle on a stable surface.

  • Suction cup: Apply firm pressure while bracing the left edge of the phone with your fingers.
  • Insert an opening tool into the seam between the back cover and frame.
  • Slide the opening tool back and forth to loosen the back cover.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply iOpener to phone edge for 2 minutes.

  • Suction cup: Attach to phone's right edge (near center), close to adhesive strip.
  • Pull suction cup with strong, steady force to create gap between back cover and frame.
  • Insert opening pick into the created gap.

Multiple attempts may be necessary due to tight tolerances and strong adhesive.

  • If struggling: Ensure iOpener has heated edge until just barely too hot to touch, then reapply suction cup.
  • Apply a few drops of high concentration isopropyl alcohol into seam to loosen adhesive.

Avoid excessive force with opening pick or risk cracking back cover glass.

Step 5 | Slice through the adhesive

Step 5 image

Do not slice the corner adhesives without heat — risk of cracking the back cover.

  • Slide an opening pick along the edge of the phone, cutting through the adhesive.
  • Leave a pick in the seam to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 6

Apply a heated iOpener to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes.

  • Insert an opening pick into the right edge near the bottom right corner.
  • Slide the pick around the corner and continue cutting along the bottom edge, then around the bottom left corner.
  • If cutting feels difficult, re-apply heat to the edge before continuing.
  • Leave an opening pick in the seam to prevent adhesive re-sealing.

Step 7

Continue to heat and slice around the remaining phone edges.

  • Ensure thorough heating when cutting around corners.
  • Apply sufficient heat to the entire corner area before slicing.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 3

Twist an opening pick into one edge of the phone to separate the back cover from the frame.

  • Lift the back cover slowly and use opening picks to slice any remaining adhesive.
  • Remove the back cover completely.

Power off your phone before continuing, as some functions may not work properly during reassembly.

Reassemble in stages: test your phone's functionality and power it down before sealing the back cover.

  • Reinstall the back cover, replacing adhesive if necessary.
  • Transfer and install the camera bezel according to the provided guide.

If reusing the existing adhesive, remove large chunks that may prevent a flush fit. Secure the back cover by heating it and applying pressure.

Step 9 | Remove the midframe

If stuck, slowly peel the top midframe off carefully.

  • To reinstall: align the midframe's top edge with the phone and lay it down.
  • Apply pressure along the midframe perimeter using fingers to snap clips back into place.

The edges should sit flush against the phone edge.

  • Pry upwards to disconnect the battery connector from its socket.
  • Gently push the battery's flex cable away from the motherboard socket to prevent accidental contact.

  • Once free, remove the motherboard from the phone.

Trap cables under the board to avoid damage.

  • To reinstall:
  • Align the charging port with the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Gently push the motherboard into place until seated.
  • Lower the motherboard, pressing it firmly against the frame to prevent cable trapping.
