Samsung Galaxy S10 Loudspeaker Replacement

The Samsung Galaxy S10 loudspeaker is integrated into the lower midframe. Removing it requires careful disassembly.

  • Prepare to challenge yourself with the most difficult step: removing the S10's back cover.
  • This guide will walk you through the process, but be prepared for some complexity.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Unplug your phone and power it off.

  • Apply heat to the right edge of the back cover using an iOpener for two minutes.
  • Alternative heating methods include a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat: excessive heat can damage the display and internal battery.

Take note of the adhesive locations on the removed back cover image before proceeding.

Step 2 | Create an opening gap

Position the phone at a 0.5 inch (13 mm) angle on a supporting surface.

  • Secure the left edge of the phone with your fingers to prevent movement.
  • Pull the suction cup firmly to create tension.

Apply gentle pressure to avoid damaging components.

  • Insert an opening tool into the seam between the back cover and frame.
  • Slide the tool back and forth along the seam to loosen the back cover.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply excessive force with the opening pick and risk cracking the back cover glass.

  • Heat an iOpener and apply it to the right edge of the phone for two minutes.
  • Attach a suction cup to the center of the right edge, near the narrowest adhesive area.
  • Pull on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.

Multiple attempts may be necessary due to tight tolerances and strong adhesive.

  • Check that you've heated the edge until just barely too hot to touch before attempting again.
  • If necessary, apply a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol into the seam for extra loosening.

Insert the opening pick into the gap at an angle and avoid applying excessive force.

Step 4 | Slice through the adhesive

Risk of damaging the back cover if the adhesive is sliced without applying heat.

  • Slide an opening pick along the edge of the phone, cutting through the adhesive.
  • Apply heat to the adhesive before attempting to slice the corners.

Leave a pick in the seam to prevent re-sealing.

Step 5

Apply a heated iOpener to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes.

  • Insert an opening pick into the right edge near the bottom right corner.
  • Slide carefully around the corner, then continue cutting along the bottom edge and around the bottom left corner.
  • If the cutting feels difficult, re-apply heat to the edge before continuing.
  • Leave an opening pick in the seam to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Continue heating and slicing until all edges are clear.

  • Note: Corners require extra attention; ensure they're well-heated before cutting.
  • Thoroughly heat each edge, then carefully slice through it.

Twist an opening pick into one edge to separate the back cover from the frame.

  • Lift the back cover slowly using multiple opening picks to remove remaining adhesive.
  • Remove the back cover.

Power on your phone and test functions before sealing the back cover in place. Power down completely before continuing.

  • Follow the reassembly guide for camera bezel transfer and adhesive replacement.
  • If not replacing adhesive, remove large chunks that may interfere with proper fit. Apply heat and pressure to secure the back cover.

Step 8 | Remove the midframe

Insert a spudger into the notch on the right edge, near the volume up button.
  • Pry gently to loosen the midframe from the phone.

Remove the midframe from the top corners.

The top midframe may stick at the bottom right corner, peel it off slowly if necessary.

  • Align the top edge of the midframe to the phone.
  • Lay the frame down on the phone and apply pressure along the perimeter with your fingers to snap the clips back into place.
  • The edges should sit flush against the phone edge.

Step 11 | Disconnect the battery

Insert the flat end of a spudger under the battery connector attached to the motherboard below the rear-facing camera.

  • Pry upwards to disconnect the connector from its socket.
  • Gently push the battery's flex cable away from the motherboard socket.
