Samsung Galaxy S10 Front-Facing Camera Replacement

Replace the front-facing camera module on your Galaxy S10 by following these steps:

  • The most challenging aspect of this repair is removing the back cover.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Unplug and power off your device.

  • Heat an iOpener and apply it to the right edge for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but avoid overheating, which can damage the display and internal battery.

Take note of adhesive location from the removed back cover image beforehand to ensure correct application.

Step 2 | Create an opening gap

Position the phone at a 13 mm angle by resting its right edge on a surface approximately 0.5 inches thick.

  • Suction cup with firm pressure, while bracing the left edge of the phone with your fingers to prevent it from sliding.
  • Insert the edge of an opening tool into the seam between the back cover and the frame.
  • Back and forth motion along the seam to loosen the back cover using the opening tool in place.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Apply iOpener for two minutes.

  • Attach suction cup to back of phone near center of right edge.
  • Pull on suction cup with strong force, creating gap between cover and frame.

Multiple attempts may be necessary due to tight tolerances and adhesive strength.

  • If still having trouble, reheat until just barely too hot to touch.
  • Try applying a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol into seam.

Do not apply excessive force with opening pick; risk cracking back cover glass.

Step 4 | Slice through the adhesive

Heating the adhesive without separating the corner first can cause the back cover to crack.

  • Slide an opening pick along the phone's edge, cutting through the adhesive.
  • Apply heat before attempting to separate the corners from their respective adhesives.
  • Leave a pick in the seam to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 5

Apply a heated iOpener to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes.

  • Insert an opening pick into the right edge near the bottom right corner.
  • Slide the pick around the corner, then continue cutting along the bottom edge and around the bottom left corner.
  • If the cutting feels difficult, re-apply heat to the edge before continuing, as this may help prevent damage.

Leave an opening pick in the seam to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Continue to heat and slice along the remaining phone edges.

Thoroughly heat corners before cutting to avoid damage.

Step 7

Twist an opening pick into one edge to begin separating the back cover from the frame.

  • Lift the back cover slowly using opening picks to slice any remaining adhesive.
  • Remove the back cover completely.

Power off your phone and make sure it's fully powered down before continuing.

During reassembly, test all functions by powering on your phone at this stage.

  • Reinstall the back cover using the provided guide for camera bezel transfer and adhesive installation.
  • Alternatively, reinstall without replacing adhesive; remove any large chunks that may interfere with proper fitment.

Apply heat and pressure to secure the back cover in place after installation.

Step 8 | Remove the midframe

Step 8 image

Remove the eight 4 mm Phillips screws that secure the top midframe to the phone.

Step 9

Locate and insert the spudger tip into the notch adjacent to the volume up button.

  • Pry gently upwards on the midframe using the spudger.
  • Release any remaining plastic clips holding it in place around the edge.

Step 10

Remove the midframe from the top corners of the phone.

The top midframe may stick to the lower midframe at its bottom right corner; if so, carefully peel it off slowly.

  • Align the top edge of the midframe with the phone and lay it down on the device.
  • Apply pressure along the midframe perimeter using fingers to snap the clips back into place.
  • The edges should sit flush against the phone's edge when complete.

Step 11 | Disconnect the battery

Insert the flat end of a spudger underneath the battery connector, attached to the motherboard below the rear-facing camera.

  • Pry upwards to disconnect the connector from its socket.
  • Be careful not to dislodge small surface-mounted components surrounding the socket.

  • Gently push the battery's flex cable away from the motherboard socket.

Step 12 | Front-Facing Camera

Be careful when handling delicate connectors to avoid pin damage.

  • Use a spudger's point to carefully pry up and disconnect the front-facing camera connector from its motherboard socket.
  • To reattach, align the connector and press down on one side until it clicks into place; repeat on the other side.
  • Avoid pressing the middle of the connector.
