Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Motherboard Replacement

The Samsung Galaxy S10+ motherboard removal process involves several steps. Be aware that carefully disassembling the device can be challenging, particularly when trying to remove the back cover.

Step 1 | SIM/MicroSD Card

Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or straightened paperclip into the hole on the SIM tray.

  • The hole is located at the top edge of the phone next to the plastic antenna band.
  • If you inserted the tool into the other hole, the microphone and ingress gasket are safe from damage.
  • Press firmly to eject the tray.

Never force or pry the SIM tray out - risk of damage to internal components.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.
  • To reinsert, ensure the SIM card is properly aligned with the tray.

Step 2 | Heat the back cover

Unplug and power off your phone before proceeding.

  • Apply iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun (but be careful not to overheat the phone: the display and internal battery can suffer damage from excessive heat).

Before proceeding, study the image of the removed back cover and note the adhesive's location.

Step 3 | Create an opening gap

Step 3 image

Risk of cracking the back cover glass: do not apply excessive force with the pick.

  • Apply a suction cup to the phone's right edge, near the center, where adhesive is narrowest.
  • Pull on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert opening pick point into the gap.

Due to tight tolerances, multiple attempts may be necessary. If struggling, apply more heat and try again.

  • To aid in loosening adhesive, apply a few drops of high concentration isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) into the seam.

Step 4

Position the phone at an angle using a support about 0.5 inches (13 mm) thick.

  • Bias the phone with your fingers to prevent it from sliding.
  • Pull on the suction cup with firm pressure.
  • Press the opening tool into the seam at the back cover and frame joint.
  • Slide the tool back and forth along the seam a few times.

Step 5 | Slice through the adhesive

Attempting to cut corner adhesive without heat may crack the back cover.

  • Slide an opening pick along the phone's edge, cutting through adhesive.
  • Apply heat before attempting to separate corner adhesives.
  • Leave a pick in the seam to prevent re-sealing of adhesive.

Step 6

Apply a iOpener to the bottom edge of the phone and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 7

Insert a pick into the right edge near the bottom right corner.

  • Slide the pick around the corner, cutting along the bottom edge and left corner.
  • If the cut is difficult, re-apply heat to the edge before continuing.

Leave a pick in the seam to prevent adhesive re-sealing.

Twist an opening pick into one edge of the phone to begin separating the back cover from the frame.

  • Lift the back cover slowly using opening picks to slice any remaining adhesive.
  • Remove the back cover once it is separated from the frame.

Power on your phone and test all functions before sealing the back cover, then power down completely when finished testing.

  • Follow this guide to reinstall the back cover, transfer the camera bezel, and replace the adhesive during reassembly.

  • Be careful not to dislodge small surface-mounted components surrounding the socket.

  • Gently push the battery's flex cable away from the motherboard socket to prevent accidental contact.
