Unplug and power off your phone before proceeding.

  • Heat an iOpener for two minutes and apply it to the right edge of the back cover.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the device — risk of display or internal battery damage.
  • While waiting, study the image of the removed back cover and note the location of the adhesive for future reference.

Step 2 | Create an opening gap

Apply a suction cup to the phone's back near its right edge, just above the narrowest part of the adhesive.

  • Pull on the suction cup firmly and steadily to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Due to tight tolerances, this process may require multiple attempts.

If no gap forms, reapply heat to the edge and retry. Alternatively, apply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) into the seam to loosen the adhesive.

Avoid applying excessive force with the pick, which can crack the back cover glass.

Step 3

Position the phone at an angle on a stable surface, ensuring the right edge is approximately 0.5 inches (13 mm) above.

  • Finger grip the left edge of the phone to prevent sliding.
  • Pull the suction cup firmly with even pressure.
  • Insert an opening tool into the seam between back cover and frame.
  • Apply gentle pressure, slide tool along seam several times, then release.

Step 4 | Slice through the adhesive

Apply heat after removing the corner adhesives to avoid cracking the back cover.

  • Slide an opening pick along the edge of the phone, slicing through the adhesive.
  • Remove a separate pick and apply heat to the remaining corners.

Leave one pick in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 5

Insert an opening pick into the right edge near the bottom right corner.

  • Carefully slide the pick around the corner.
  • Continue cutting along the bottom edge and around the bottom left corner.

If the cutting feels difficult, re-apply heat to the edge before continuing.

Leave an opening pick in the seam to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Continue heating the edges until they are completely separated from the rest of the phone.

  • Slice through any remaining connections, making sure to heat up the corners thoroughly before cutting.

Twist an opening pick into one edge of the phone to separate the back cover from the frame.

  • Lift the back cover slowly.
  • If necessary, use opening picks to slice remaining adhesive.
  • Remove the back cover.

Power on your phone and test all functions before sealing the back cover. Ensure your phone is fully powered down before continuing work.

  • Follow this guide for reassembly steps, including camera bezel installation and new adhesive application.

  • Lift the midframe from the top corners.
  • Remove it completely from the phone.

Apply even pressure to avoid damaging components.

  • Align the midframe's top edge with the phone.
  • Lay the frame down on the phone and apply gentle pressure along the perimeter.
  • The edges should snap into place and sit flush against the phone edge.

Step 13 | Remove the loudspeaker

Step 13 image

Remove the seven 4 mm Phillips screws from the lower midframe.

  • The screws are located along the edges of the phone.
  • Use a suitable screwdriver to avoid damaging the threads.
