Samsung Galaxy S10+ Battery Replacement

If your battery is swollen, do not heat your phone — this can cause injury.

  • Discharge your battery to below 25% for your safety.
  • Apply high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol to loosen the strong adhesive holding the battery in place.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Unplug your phone and power it off before starting.

  • Apply an iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate - but avoid overheating: damage can occur to the display and internal battery.

Study the image of the removed back cover to identify adhesive locations.

Step 2 | Create an opening gap

Apply suction cup near center of right edge, taking care to avoid applying excessive force.

  • Attach a suction cup to phone's back and pull with steady force to create gap.
  • Insert opening pick into the gap; multiple attempts may be necessary due to tight tolerances.
  • If still having trouble, try applying more heat or a few drops of high concentration isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) to loosen adhesive.
  • Avoid excessive force with opening pick to prevent cracking the back cover glass.

Step 3

Position the phone at a 13mm (0.5in) angle using a stable support.

  • Suction Cup: Apply firm pressure while holding the left edge with your fingers.
  • Aim for the seam between back cover and frame.
  • Slide an opening tool along the seam, moving it back and forth a few times.

Step 4 | Slice through the adhesive

Risk of cracking the back cover if attempting to cut corner adhesives without heat.

  • Slide an opening pick along the phone's edge, carefully cutting through the adhesive.
  • Apply heat before cutting adhesive holding corners in place to prevent damage.
  • Leave a pick in the seam to maintain separation and prevent re-adhesion of the adhesive.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Heat a iOpener and apply it to the bottom edge of the phone for 2 minutes.

Step 6

Insert an opening pick into the right edge near the bottom right corner.

  • Slide the pick around the corner, then continue cutting along the bottom edge and around the bottom left corner.
  • If cutting feels difficult, re-apply heat to the edge before continuing.

  • Leave an opening pick in the seam to prevent adhesive re-sealing.

Continue heating and slicing along the remaining edges.

  • Ensure sharp corners are heated thoroughly before cutting.

Twist an opening pick into one edge of the sliced phone to aid separation.

  • Lift the back cover slowly using additional picks for stubborn adhesive.
  • Remove the back cover completely.

Power on your phone and test all functions before sealing the back cover. Completely power down before continuing work.

Reassembly steps include reinstalling the back cover, transferring the camera bezel, and replacing adhesive, following the provided guide.

Step 9 | Remove the midframe

Locate the plastic clips holding the midframe in place.

  • Insert a spudger into the notch on the right edge, near the Bixby button.
  • Be careful not to damage the surrounding area — apply gentle pressure only.

Pry up to loosen the midframe.

Locate the notch on the left edge of the phone near the power button.

  • Pierce the notch with the point of a spudger.
  • Pry up to release the midframe from the phone.

Step 12

Step 12 image
  • Lift the midframe from the top corners.
  • Remove it from the phone.

Be careful not to damage the phone's edges or midframe clips.

  • Align the midframe's top edge with the phone and place the frame down on the phone.
  • Apply pressure along the midframe perimeter using fingers to snap the clips back into place.

Step 13 | Disconnect the battery

Step 13 image

Insert the flat end of a spudger underneath the battery connector, located on the motherboard below the rear-facing camera.

  • Pry upwards to disconnect the connector from its socket, taking care not to dislodge surrounding surface-mounted components.
  • Gently push the battery's flex cable away from the motherboard socket to prevent accidental contact.

Step 14 | Battery

Step 14 image

Be cautious of the display assembly as it's easily damaged.

  • Note the areas marked under the battery:
    • The frame where the battery is secured with strong adhesive.
    • A cutout in the frame exposing the fragile display assembly.
  • Pry carefully to avoid damaging the display.

Step 15

Apply high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol to the battery for easier removal.

  • Lift the bottom edge of the phone, holding it in a tilted position.

Using too much alcohol can damage the display.

Apply 1-2 drops of isopropyl alcohol to the battery crevice and hold the phone for a minute.

  • Alternatively, heat an iOpener and apply it to the right side of the front for two minutes.

Step 16

Thumbnail 3

Insert the corner of an opening card into the crevice between the battery and bottom midframe.

  • Pry the battery out using firm, constant pressure.
  • If it doesn't budge, check the adhesive is sufficiently weakened.
  • Do not use metal tools.

Instead, use an opening pick, opening tool, or a spudger.
  • Repeat isopropyl alcohol application and try again.
  • Apply more heat with an iOpener if necessary.

Step 17

Remove the old battery.

Never reuse a removed battery, as it poses a safety hazard.

  • Install a new battery.
  • If using isopropyl alcohol, wait 10 minutes for evaporation before installing the new battery.
  • Follow the guide to replace the battery adhesive.

Temporarily reconnect the battery to the motherboard for proper alignment.

  • Apply pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape to the frame first.
  • Press the battery into place in the recess.

Do not apply adhesive on the exposed display back.
