Excessive force may crack the back cover glass.

  • Apply a suction cup near the center of the right edge, where the adhesive is narrowest.
  • Pull on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap; repeat if necessary due to tight tolerances.
  • Apply more heat and retry if creating a gap is difficult.
  • Try applying high-concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol to loosen adhesive.

Position the phone at a 0.5-inch (13 mm) angle by resting its heated right edge on a surface.

  • Bend your left fingers around the phone to secure it, preventing movement during the next steps.
  • Pull the suction cup firmly with both hands.

Careful not to apply too much pressure on the screen or casing.

  • Insert the edge of an opening tool into the seam between the back cover and frame.
  • Gently slide the opening tool back and forth along the seam several times.

Step 4 | Slice through the adhesive

Sliding an opening pick along the edge of the phone will help slice through the adhesive.

  • Apply gentle pressure and move the pick slowly around the edge of the phone.

Avoid applying excessive force, which may crack the back cover if you attempt to cut the corner adhesives without heat first.

  • Leave a pick in the seam to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.
