Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant LCD Screen Replacement

A cracked screen can compromise device functionality.

  • Acquire the replacement screen assembly.
  • Disassemble the phone, taking care to remove any screws and connectors as needed.
  • Install the new screen assembly, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Reassemble the phone in the reverse order of disassembly.

Step 1 | Battery

Locate the small slit on the bottom edge of the device between the back and front cases.

  • Pop the back case off by inserting your finger and pulling the case away from the phone.
  • If stuck, use the Plastic Opening Tools to pry the back case off carefully.

Push the battery's bottom edge upwards and away from the phone.

  • You can also use the Plastic Opening Tools to perform this task.

Step 3 | Midframe

Push the SIM card down and away from the slot.

  • Pull the SIM card out toward the bottom edge of the phone.

Remove all seven 4.5mm Phillips #00 screws around the phone's edge.

Start near the power button and use a plastic opening tool to release the plastic clips holding the midframe in place.

Work carefully, as it's easy to miss some clips — ensure all are released before proceeding.

  • The power button and volume control button on the sides of the phone will come loose when the midframe is removed.

Remove the SD card from its slot.

Step 7 | Unhooking Antenna Cable

  • Disconnect the antenna from the device using a pair of Tweezers.
  • Begin with the lower end and then proceed to the upper end.
  • Once disconnected, carefully pull the antenna cable out from the device.

Step 8 | Headphone Jack/Ear Speaker

Locate the three snap-on ribbon cable connectors on the motherboard.

  • Disconnect each connector carefully using a Plastic Opening Tool.

Be cautious when handling the motherboard as ribbon cables may be damaged if pulled.

  • Fold the motherboard over to the left side after detaching all three ribbon cable connectors.
  • Note that the power button's ribbon cable remains attached, glued in place.

Step 10

Remove the power button ribbon cable from the phone using a Plastic Opening Tool.

Be careful not to damage the power button or its connecting ribbon cable when detaching.

The remaining adhesive allows for easy reinstallation of the power button without additional glue.

With the motherboard removed, access the Headset Jack and Ear Speaker.

  • Use a Plastic Opening Tool to gently pry up the Headphone Jack for removal.
  • The Headphone Jack is secured with adhesive that remains tacky after removal, allowing for easy replacement without additional glue.

Disconnect the Earpiece Speaker by prying it gently using a Plastic Opening Tool.

  • The connection type is similar to snap-on ribbon cables.
  • Once disconnected, set aside with other removed components, such as the Headphone Jack.

Step 13 | LCD Screen

Apply heat using a heat gun or hairdryer to loosen the adhesive securing the touch panel.

Wear heat-resistant gloves to avoid burns when handling the heated screen.

Use a plastic opening tool or guitar pick to carefully remove the touch panel.

  • Start at the top edge and wedge your tool between the screen and frame.
  • Slide the tool along the framework, working carefully around the edges.
  • If the screen is cracked, cover it with masking tape to prevent chipped glass.

The adhesive may re-bond as you work; reheat it as needed for smooth removal.
