Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant Headphone Jack/Ear Speaker Replacement

To replace the Headphone Jack and Ear Speaker, remove:

  • The battery.
  • The inner back panel.
  • The antenna.
  • The motherboard.

Step 1 | Battery

Find the small gap at the bottom edge, where the back and front cases meet.

  • Pry open the back case by inserting a finger and pulling it away from the phone.
  • If stuck, use the Plastic Opening Tools to carefully pry the back case loose.

Push the battery upwards from the bottom edge using your fingers or a Plastic Opening Tool.

Step 3 | Midframe

Push SIM ejector tool firmly into the SIM card slot until the metal tray is released.

  • Hold the phone with the SIM card slot facing up.
  • Pull down on the SIM card to remove it from the slot.

Remove the seven 4.5 mm Phillips #00 screws from around the perimeter of the device.

Position the plastic opening tool near the power button.

  • Disengage the midframe clips using a gentle prying motion.
  • Continue working carefully to disengage all clips before proceeding.

Components such as the power button and volume control buttons may fall loose during removal, so be prepared to handle them separately.

Remove the SD card from its slot.

Step 7 | Unhooking Antenna Cable

  • Disconnect the antenna from its mounting point using a pair of Tweezers.
  • Pull the antenna cable out.

Step 8 | Headphone Jack/Ear Speaker

Careful when handling the ribbon cables to avoid damage.

  • Identify the three snap-on ribbon cable connectors on the motherboard.
  • Use a Plastic Opening Tool to carefully disconnect each connector.

Step 9

Do not pull on the ribbon cables while handling the motherboard.

Fold the motherboard over to the left after detaching the three ribbon cable connectors.

Be cautious of the power button's ribbon cable, which is glued in place and still attached to the phone's body.

Step 10

Remove the power button ribbon cable from the phone body using the Plastic Opening Tools.

  • Be careful not to damage the button itself or its connecting ribbon cable when detaching it.
  • The glue holding the button in place will remain tacky, allowing for easy replacement without additional glue.

Remove the motherboard to access the Headset Jack and Ear Speaker.

  • Pry up the Headphone Jack using a Plastic Opening Tool, being gentle to avoid damage.
  • The Headphone Jack has adhesive, allowing easy replacement without additional glue.

Step 12

Disconnect the Ear Speaker by gently prying it up with the Plastic Opening Tools.

  • The connection is a snap-fit, similar to ribbon cables.
  • With both Headphone Jack and Ear Speaker disconnected, they can be removed and set aside.
