Samsung Galaxy S III Plastic Midframe Replacement

  • Replace the plastic midframe using the steps outlined in this guide.

Step 1 | Rear Case

To avoid breaking clips, use a plastic opening tool or your fingernail in the notch between the rear case and the phone's top edge.

  • Gently twist the tool to disconnect the clips securing the top of the rear case.

Insert the plastic opening tool into the top edge of the phone.

  • Twist the tool gently to pry the rear case apart from the phone.
  • Repeat this motion, moving the tool left along the top edge to widen the gap.

Prying too hard can damage the casing.

  • Move the plastic opening tool clockwise around the top left corner.
  • Gently pry up along the rear case with a smooth, even motion.

Step 4

Pry along the top right side, then continue down the right side of the rear case.

Hold the rear case firmly, then lift it upwards to disengage it from the phone chassis.

Be careful not to bend or break any internal components.

  • Peel the rear case away from any clips still attached to the phone's bottom.
  • Continue lifting until the case is completely removed.

Step 6 | Battery

Use your finger to pry the battery up from its recess, or

  • Finger method: Apply pressure to the battery using your finger.
  • Plastic opening tool method:
    • Insert a plastic opening tool into the small notch above the battery.
    • Pry the battery up out of its recess.

Disconnect and remove the battery.

Step 8 | SIM Card

Push the SIM card slightly deeper with your fingernail until you hear a click.

  • Release the card and it will pop out of its slot.

For reassembly, push the SIM card into the slot until it clicks in place.

Step 9

Slide the SIM card partially out of its slot with your thumb.

  • Grab the exposed part of the SIM card.
  • Remove the SIM card from the phone.

Step 10 | microSD Card

Push the microSD card slightly deeper into its slot with your fingernail until you hear a click.

  • Release the card and it will pop out of its slot.

Do not force the card or use tools to avoid damaging the microSD card or the slot.

  • For reassembly, push the microSD card into the slot until it clicks in place.

Step 11

Slide the microSD card out using your thumb.

  • Hold the phone firmly and remove the microSD card.

Step 12 | Plastic Midframe

Remove the 10 x 4.0 mm Phillips screws that secure the midframe to the front panel assembly.

Grasp the left side of the plastic midframe with your thumb and forefinger.

  • Lift the midframe away from the phone.
  • The midframe will lightly snap into place, requiring very little force for removal.
