Samsung Galaxy S III Headphone Jack/Speaker Assembly Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing the headphone jack/speaker assembly.

Step 1 | Rear Case

For optimal results, use a plastic opening tool to avoid damaging clips. Otherwise, you can proceed with your fingers.

  • Insert a tool or fingernail into the notch at the top of the device, where the rear case meets the rest of the phone.
  • Gently twist the tool to release the clips holding the rear case in place.

Insert the plastic opening tool into the top edge of the rear case, then twist it to widen the gap.

  • Apply gentle pressure while sliding the tool left along the top edge.
  • Repeat the twisting motion until a suitable gap is achieved.

Move the plastic opening tool around the top left corner, prying up the rear case with gentle pressure.

Step 4

  • Pry along the top right side using a plastic spudger.
  • Continue prying down the right side of the rear case.

Remove the rear case. If necessary, gently pry the case loose with a plastic tool.

  • Lift the rear case away from the phone.
  • Work carefully around any clips holding it in place.

Step 6 | Battery

Use your finger or a plastic opening tool to pry the battery up.

  • Insert the tool into the small notch above the battery.
  • Gently lift the battery out of its recess.

Step 7

Disconnect and remove the battery.

Step 8 | SIM Card

Push the SIM card further into its slot with your fingernail until you hear a click.

  • Release the card and it will pop out of its slot.

Make sure the SIM card is fully seated for proper phone function, but do not force it if resistant.

  • For reassembly, push the SIM card into the slot until it clicks in place.

Hold the phone with one hand and use your other hand to carefully slide the SIM card partially out of its slot.

  • Finger the exposed portion of the SIM card to grasp it securely.
  • Gently pull the SIM card away from the phone.

Step 10 | microSD Card

Push the slightly deeper using your fingernail until you hear a click.

  • Release the card and it will pop out of its slot.
  • For reassembly, repeat this process until the card clicks into place.

Step 11

Slide the microSD card out using your thumb.

  • Remove the microSD card from the phone.

Step 12 | Plastic Midframe

Remove Ten 4.0 mm Phillips screws.

  • From the midframe, securing it to the front panel assembly.

Grasp the left side of the midframe with your thumb and forefinger.

Lift the midframe away from the phone using a light touch.

  • The midframe will lightly snap into place, requiring minimal force for removal.

Step 14 | Headphone Jack/Speaker Assembly

Careful not to damage the motherboard when prying.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to pry the rear-facing camera connector up from its socket on the motherboard.
  • Pry on the connector, not the socket, to avoid damaging the motherboard.

Step 15

Insert a plastic opening tool outboard of the speaker portion.

  • Pry the headphone jack/speaker assembly up gently from the front assembly.

Step 16

Remove the headphone jack/speaker assembly from the Galaxy S III.
