Samsung Galaxy S II T989 Volume Control Button Replacement

The volume control button is located on the phone's frame and controls volume levels by activating the motherboard's circuitry when pressed.

Step 1 | Rear Cover

Locate the rear cover tab marked by a red outline.

  • Use your fingertip to gently pry the rear cover.

Step 2 | Battery

Power down the phone completely.

Apply firm upward pressure to the battery at its bottom right edge, following the marked red rectangle.

  • Once the battery starts lifting, use your hand to carefully remove it from the phone.

Step 3 | SIM Card

Locate the SIM card within the red holder.

  • Press down gently on the SIM card.
  • Slide the SIM card to the left until it is no longer in contact with the metal.

Step 4 | Media Card

Locate the media card inside the area marked by the red rectangle.

The small black card may be difficult to see, so examine the area carefully.

  • Gently slide the card to the right using your fingers until it is no longer in contact with the metal.

Step 5 | Inner Plate

Risk of dropped screws due to small size — use care when handling.

  • Remove the six screws, measuring 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) in diameter, using a Philips head precision screwdriver.
  • Set aside all removed screws on a magnetic mat or in a plastic bag to prevent loss.

Place device on grounded surface or wear anti-static wrist band.

  • Remove screws from inner plate.
  • Firmly pinch edge of inner plate as shown in picture, then pull away from frame.

If unable to get grip, use spudger to pry and lift plate out.

Step 7 | Motherboard

The motherboard contains delicate components which can be damaged if mishandled.

  • Undo the four tabs marked by red outlines with a small flat-head screwdriver or your thumbnail.

Step 8

Apply firm pressure to the motherboard's edges and gently lift upward.

  • If the board doesn't budge, attempt wiggling it left and right to release the corners from the screw holes.

Step 9 | Volume Control Button

Use tweezers to lift the tab marked with a red rectangle.

Step 10

Press the volume control button inwards with a firm touch.

  • If needed, use a pair of tweezers for extra grip and leverage.
