Samsung Galaxy S II T989 Speaker Replacement

The rear speaker uses the protective inner plate as its housing and comes into play whenever there's no audio output through headphones or the speakerphone feature.

Step 1 | Rear Cover

Locate the rear cover tab indicated by the red outline.

  • Pry the rear cover open using a finger and nail.

Step 2 | Inner Plate

Remove the six 1/16" screws with a Philips head precision screwdriver.

  • Set aside the screws on a magnetic surface or in a plastic bag to prevent loss.

Place device on grounded surface or use anti-static wrist band when removing inner plate.

  • Remove screws holding the inner plate in place.
  • Firmly pinch plastic tabs along edge, as shown in picture, and pull plate away from frame.

If unable to grip plate, use spudger to carefully pry and lift out.

Step 4 | Speaker

Locate the speaker within the area indicated by the red rectangle.

  • Hold the frame firmly with one hand.
  • Push the speaker outwards with the other hand, applying sufficient force.

Use caution to avoid breaking the frame and ensure a secure grip.
