Samsung Galaxy S II T989 Front Camera Replacement

The front facing camera is secured with a single screw, which attaches it to the phone's case via a plastic bar.

Step 1 | Rear Cover

Locate the tab marked in red.

  • Gently pry the rear cover with your fingertip.

Step 2 | Battery

Turn off the phone before proceeding.

  • Apply upward pressure on the battery's bottom right edge.
  • Once the battery begins to rise, grasp it carefully with your hand and lift out.

Step 3 | SIM Card

Locate the SIM card, a small white rectangle housed within the larger red SIM tray.

  • Press down on the SIM card until it disengages from its metal clip.
  • Gently slide the SIM card to the left, ensuring it is no longer in contact with the metal clip before proceeding.

Step 4 | Media Card

Locate the media card within the designated area.

Be cautious as the card may be difficult to see due to its small size and black color.

  • Gently slide the card to the right using your fingers until it is no longer in contact with the metal component.

Step 5 | Inner Plate

Locate and remove the six inner plate screws, which have a diameter of 1.6 mm (1/16 inch).

  • Use a Philips head precision screwdriver to avoid damaging the surrounding components.
  • Set aside all removed screws on a magnetic mat or in a plastic bag to prevent loss.

Remove the inner plate by placing the device on a grounded surface or wearing an anti-static wrist band.

  • Remove screws holding the plate in place.
  • Pinch the edge of the inner plate firmly, as shown, and pull it away from the frame.
  • If you struggle to get a grip, use a spudger to carefully pry and lift the plate out.

Step 7 | Motherboard

Handling the motherboard can cause damage to its delicate components.

  • Undo the 3 tabs marked with red outlines using a small flat-head screwdriver or your thumbnail.
  • A fourth tab located at the bottom of the phone also needs to be opened.

Carefully apply even pressure to the motherboard's edges and lift upwards.

  • If the motherboard doesn't lift, gently wiggle it left and right to dislodge the corners stuck under case screws.

Step 9 | Front Camera

  • Remove the screw marked with a red circle, size: 1/16" (1.6 mm).
  • Take off the cover plate.

Step 10

Use tweezers to remove the plastic bar holding the camera in place.

Step 11

Use tweezers to carefully lift the camera out of the phone.

  • The camera is now fully exposed.
  • Lift upward slowly and steadily.
