Samsung Galaxy On5 Camera Replacement

This repair involves replacing both the front-facing camera and the rear-facing camera in your Samsung Galaxy On5 device.

Step 1 | Battery

Locate the side notch and use it to pry open the back casing.

  • Remove the SIM card and microSD card.

  • Use the plastic Spudger tool to carefully pry open the LCD ribbon cable cover.
  • Take your time as this part might be stubborn, but avoid applying too much pressure.

Do not use a metal pry tool, as it may damage the logic board or the LCD ribbon cable.

  • Use a plastic pry tool to carefully pry the LCD ribbon cable from the logic board.
  • The LCD ribbon cable carries signals between the logic board and the LCD screen.

Remove the 9 Phillips screws using a #00 head screwdriver.

  • Set the screws aside in a safe place to prevent loss.

All 9 screws are identical, so be careful not to mix them up when reassembling.

Be careful when prying away the LCD from the back assembly.

  • Use a iFixit plastic pick to carefully pry around the edge of the screen.
  • Apply gentle, continuous pressure to loosen the glue over time.
  • Alternatively, use a heat gun to warm up the glue for easier separation.

Locate the speaker in the back assembly.

  • Use a plastic pry tool to remove the speaker from its housing.
  • Replace with a new speaker.

Avoid using metal tools on delicate electronics — risk of damage or short-circuit.

  • Use a plastic pry tool to carefully lift the front-facing camera from its housing.

Disconnect the camera from the logic board.

Front-facing camera successfully removed.

Step 13 | Rear-Facing Camera

Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screw holding the rear-facing camera in place.

  • When using a metal tool, be mindful of where you're placing the bit to avoid damaging the motherboard, which can lead to irreparable harm with standard tools.

Disconnect the headphone ribbon using a plastic pry tool.

  • Lift the motherboard out of the LCD housing, starting from the ends of the logic board.

Rotate the logic board to face the camera lens downwards.

  • Hold the camera module in place with one hand.
  • Use your other finger to gently disengage it from its connection on the logic board.
